ChapterFifteen

Lexi

Leo.

Just thinking about him affected me.And here?At the Mirage? He could absolutely not still be in Vegas, let alone the same hotel I was staying in.That was crazy.Beyond crazy. It was ridiculous.

But he was.

As I stood under the shower spray, my mind filled with images of him.Despite the hot water, I shivered at the thought of his kisses on my skin.My body responded to the memory and elicited a feeling in my belly I thought I'd never feel again.

But it had to stop.I cranked the tap, causing the water to run icy so I could focus and finish my shower.

I hated rushing.I hated being late. And it would only get worse.I hadn't even told Andrew about the change in plans for the day. With any luck, he would still be passed out, sleeping off the hangover I'm sure he had, and I could sneak out.

At dinner the night before, the guys had switched from beer to wine and the four of us split two bottles, with the men drinking more than their share.By the time we left the restaurant, Andrew insisted on trying his luck at the craps tables, where he promptly lost a couple hundred dollars, maybe more.I didn't want to think about it.

Instead of calling it a night, he was just getting warmed up and with Ryan feeding him booze, the two of them could not be talked out of playing blackjack as well.It was well after two by the time I was able to drag him back to the room.

Even though I was annoyed, I was relieved that he was too drunk to want to fool around. With thoughts of Leo occupying every spare moment, the last thing I wanted was to be intimate with my husband. And I knew that was wrong, on so many levels.Andrew was passed out on the bed before I'd even brushed my teeth.

But he must have slept it off because when I stepped out of the shower, Andrew was awake.

"Lex, come back to bed."

"Can't.I have to get going."I tied the robe snug around me and shook my hair from the towel.

"Going where?"he mumbled, his voice thick with sleep."You said you were going to show me the Strip and it will still be there in an hour.Take that robe off and come back to bed."

"Oh, Andrew.I forgot to tell you."I combed out my hair before grabbing my moisturizer.

"Forgot what?"

"I promised Nicole I'd help her out today with some last-minute things.I'm sorry I can't hang out with you today, but maybe—"

"What the fuck?"

I ducked around the mirror and faced him."Excuse me?Don't swear at me.Are you still drunk?"

He probably was and I really didn't want to deal with any more of that.He was not only unpleasant when he drank, but downright obnoxious.Apparently that carried over to the morning after as well.

"I'm not swearing at you," he said."I'm swearing at your total preoccupation with her. It's a wonder to me how she can function at all without you."

I took a deep breath."Are you serious? This is her wedding. It's my job to be there for her."

"It's always something, isn't it," he mumbled but I still heard him."Anything but me."

"You're acting like a child."

"No, if I was acting like a child, at least I'd get some attention."He sat up and the sheet fell from his body, revealing his bare chest, reminding me that it'd been a long time since I'd seen him naked.

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"Nothing," he said but it was obvious that it was anything but.

I took a deep breath and decided not to push that particular issue. One problem at a time was more than I could handle.

Besides, Andrew was already back on the issue of Nicole."Her wedding is tomorrow," he said."Is it too much to ask that I spend one day with my wife?"
