I shrug it off. “She looks like that a lot,” I say, thinking how true that has been of late.

Undeterred, she continues. “Don’t take this the wrong way but it was obvious there’s something between you two.”

I spin around. “There isn’t,” I say, a little too quickly. “She’s been a guest here for a long time.”

“Isaac,” Aurelia smiles and heads off to her suite. She keeps talking even as she’s out of sight. “We’re going to be living in the villa together for quite a few weeks. You have to realize I’m probably going to learn things about your life that other clients wouldn’t. I don’t want you to have to shut yourself off. I’m asking a lot of you; I want you to feel as though you can be yourself. If something is going on between you and Mrs. Navitsky, you don’t have to keep it a secret from me, ok? I’m not going to judge you.”

Part of me is relieved, but a much weirder part of me is pissed. I understand the first part, but not the second. Until she walks back out of her suite.

Then, I understand it perfectly.

There’s a lot I like about Aurelia Bird. She’s bright, she’s kind, she’s witty, she’s perceptive. And now, as I try hard not to stare at her impeccable figure dressed daringly in a white lace, almost transparent bikini, I finally admit she’s hot. I feel the heat rise up my throat and into my jaw as it dawns on me, I might actually fancy Aurelia Bird, and I might actually be old enough to be her dad.
