She snorted again. Maybe she shouldn’t have had those drinks in the air in lieu of dinner. The interview had gone so well, and she wasn’t sure if that was worthy of celebration or skepticism. It was easier to just not think about outcomes at the moment.

Tim unbuttoned her blouse and relieved her of her bra, wasting only a moment to tweak her aroused nipples and kiss her belly button. He divested her of her skirt next and laid it neatly over the back of the chair in the corner of the room.

Then he rolled back the covers of the bed, canted his head toward them, and waited.

Sighing, she got in.

He handed her a water bottle and left the room.

She guzzled the cool liquid, her eyelids falling heavily in between swallows, and listened to the soft sounds of light switches being flicked and Tim’s heavy footsteps on the wood floor as he moved throughout the house.

She had no idea what he was up to, but there were always some certainties with Tim. He’d never hurt her. He might cause her more angst than a teen drama on the Freeform network, but he’d take care of her—not only in the way he saw fit but in the way she needed him to.

It’d been too damn long since she’d let anyone take care of her.

He returned to the room, hit the light, and moved through the darkness. She caught the movements of his body and made them out. Him removing his clothes. Him turning off his phone. Him moving to the other side of the bed and pulling back the covers.

Before he lay down, he gave her hair bun a little flick.

Fix that, he seemed to be saying.

Oh.

She pulled the few pins and the two elastics and dropped them onto the nightstand beside her water bottle. “Happy now?”

No response, but by that point, she wasn’t really expecting one from him. She was happy with not having to hold up an end of a conversation. If they talked, they’d have to discuss heavy things, like, “Aren’t we broken up?” and she didn’t want to do that. She just wanted to touch him and be touched by him—be loved by him, for as long as he could stand her.

He pulled her into his arms and nestled her against his hot, hard body.

She drew in his familiar scent of sea and man and bussed her lips against his neck. Nothing else mattered at the moment. She was turned on, but so tired. Needy, but content. There were things she needed to consider, but that’s what mornings were for. One night in his arms wouldn’t change anything.

Except that she might wake up loving him more.

“Come back to bed,” came Tim’s tired, raspy voice when Valerie returned from the bathroom.

She’d stubbed her toe twice and had bit down on her lip to try not to cry out, but obviously, Tim had woken anyway.

“Come on back.”

“It’s got to be noon, Tim.”

“So what? You got somewhere to be?”

“Well, no, but—”

“Come back tobed, pretty girl.”

Damn him.

She climbed back in and took her former position in the nook against his body, but this time put her back to him.

He draped his arm over her hip and idly swirled his fingertips along her bikini area.

“We should get up and be responsible adults,” she said.

“I’m beingveryresponsible. My inclination right now is to tie you up and shove my cock into you, but I figured cuddling would be more of your speed for the time of day.”

“You’re so considerate.”
