Daisyand I become regulars at the diner. Her bubbly, outgoing personality is a great complement to my more reserved outlook.

We slide into the booth after a yoga session, and tonight, we don’t even pick up menus.

She slaps a hand on the table.“Okay.Please let me set you up.Now that Grayson and I smoothed out the wrinkles in our relationship—I’m totally nuts for him—I’m around the ranch a bit more.Anyway, several of those guys are single. And I don’t mean they aren’t married. They aren’t even seeing anyone as far as I can tell.”Leaning back as the waitress walks up, Daisy points at me.“This conversation isn’t over.”

The waitress sets two cups of coffee on the table.“Same as always?”

Daisy and I nod.

“Thanks. One day, I’ll order something different and surprise you.”Daisy stirs cream and sugar into her cup.

“I’m not sure I’ll ever order anything but the breakfast.”I’m pretty sure this waitress knows more about my current life than my own mother, which is a sad thought. So I brush it away and focus on my coffee.

I’m midsip when Daisy asks her question again.“Will you let me set you up?”

Shaking my head, I search for the words to explain.“I’m not ready. It’s been a while since the party, but I still think about that guy. When I let my guard down, I don’t want to spend every minute comparing Grayson’s friend to some fantasy in my head.Right now, that’s what I’ll do.With time, I’ll forget about my mystery man. Then I’ll be in a better place to meet someone.”

“Only because that sounds logical and well thought out will I let it go for now.”She taps her phone.“The guys show up in my videos from time to time, so if any of them pique your interest, just say the word.”

I’ll probably regret saying more, but here goes.“How about this?Show me a few videos and tell me the names. Then if my interest is piqued, I’ll know his name.”

She shifts into the booth next to me.“Great idea.Let me show you the dancing video.I had Grayson pull it down because he is so shy, and I know it made him uncomfortable.I have a copy on my phone so I can watch it whenever I please.”After a few taps, a line of cowboys appears on the screen.“Not this guy. He’s just...that’s Dag.”

“Funny name.”

“Short for Hidalgo.But watch.”

The music starts, and the guys do a routine. One with a close-cropped beard is laughing the whole time, and the guy next to him wears a smile through the entire dance.

Daisy pauses the video, freezing the frame.“This is Archer.I’m not sure about his story.Parker.Totally cutie. And that’s Tyler. He’s a sweetheart.”While we wait for our food, she shows me video after video, and I get a glimpse of all the ranch hands. One stands out.Tyler.There’s something in his smile that makes me want to know him.

When I’m ready to be set up—if I ever get to that place—I’ll ask Daisy about him.

“They are all so fun.If I want to be matched, I’ll let you know.”

Our food arrives, and conversation shifts to other topics.I know Daisy will ask again, but until I’m ready to let go of my secret fantasy of being reunited with the cowboy with a pretty face, I won’t take her up on her offer.
