Chapter 30

Tyler

Ipark along the curb and jog around the truck to help Jasmine out.

She laces her fingers with mine, then shoves the door closed with her hip.“After all the excitement of this morning, I don’t really feel like working, but I need to spend a few hours on a project.”

“It might help you clear your head of the other stuff.”

“Yeah. You mentioned going out tonight, and I still want to do that.”She turns around after unlocking the door.“Want to come in for a few minutes before I go?”

“Yes.”I kiss her before crossing the threshold.“I’m proud of you.I know reliving the night and explaining yourself was difficult.”

“It was, but I feel better about everything now.I mean, not like it never happened, but...maybe he’ll get some justice.”

“I’d like to give him some justice of my own.”

Kicking off her shoes, she drops her purse into a chair.“Think we would’ve met if not for what happened?”

I pull her close.“I was already planning ways to get you away from that circle of golf shorts so I could talk to you, so yeah, we would’ve met.”

“I think so too.”She presses up on her toes and seals her lips with mine.

Life is almost perfect.

“Would you mind if instead of going back to the ranch, I stayed here while you go back to work?Maybe nap on the couch. It’s pretty comfy.”

Confusion flits across her face, but it’s quickly replaced with a smile.“Sure.But hang on a second.”

I grip her hips.“Okay.”

Laughing, she wiggles free.“I’ll be right back.”

I kick off my shoes near the door and drop onto the sofa.I’m trying to look casual and relaxed so that she doesn’t get any clues about what I have planned.

“Close your eyes.”

I squeeze them shut.“Done.What next?”

“Open your hand.”

“You going to smear it with chocolate and start licking? If so, I’d really like to watch.”After my joke, I hold out my hand.

Something cold touches my palm.

“You can open your eyes now.”She perches on my knee.

There’s a key in my hand.

“I want you to have that. When I moved in, Mr.Grindle gave me two in case I had a sweetheart.I didn’t, so I tucked the extra key away and forgot about it.”

I thread the key onto my ring.“And now you have a sweetheart.”

“I do.”She springs out of my lap.“I really have to go.If I sit there any longer, work won’t get done.”

“Go.I’ll be here when you get back.”

“I could get used to that.”She slips on her shoes, then grabs her purse.“Love you.”
