She drops into my lap, and Perry the cat follows suit.

A crack of thunder cuts off my sentence, and rain patters on the roof.
Jasmine grins.“I’m not the only one who runs to you for safety.”
“Okay.”I unbutton the top few buttons of my shirt, and the cat slips inside.“Just watch the claws.”
“You aren’t a fan of cats, are you?”
“Fan is pushing it.But I don’thatethem.”
She rubs the cat through my shirt, and the little beast starts purring.“As a kid, I wanted a cat so bad, but I never ever asked.”
