In just over a day, I’ve scratched two of the four off the list.But how am I going to borrow something without telling anyone about the wedding?And blue?I have loads of pink, and Tyler’s shirt won’t work for me to wear to the ceremony.
I can give more thought to borrowing something while I’m out shopping.There is another new something I want to purchase, so I head to the row of stores.
Very few cars are in the lot when I park not far from the donut shop.It’s closed, but I don’t want anyone to see my car in front of the lingerie store.
Daisy gushes about this place, so I expect I’ll find what I’m wanting here.
“Afternoon, how can I help you?”A woman hangs a chemise on a rack before walking toward me.
“I’m looking for something to wear under a dress.For a special occasion.Made of lace, preferably.”I’m not exactly sure what I want, but I think I’ll know it when I see it.
She points to a cluster of racks on the opposite side of the room.“I have just the thing.”After choosing several items, she lays them out for me to see.“These are all lovely.And this one is a pale blue...if that is important.”
This woman can obviously spot a bride-to-be a mile away.
“I like that one.The blue.”When the door jingles, I suck in a breath and wish I could disappear.
“Jasmine!I thought that was your car outside.”Daisy winds through the racks and hugs me.When her gaze lands on the lingerie in my hand, her eyebrows jump to her hairline.“Super cute!”
“Thanks.I need to run.I’ll talk to you later.”Pinching my lips closed, I follow the salesclerk to the counter, praying Daisy doesn’t ask me any questions.
Thankfully, she doesn’t.And I wave as I slip out the door.
That was a close call.
I drop my bag at the house, then call Tyler as I head to the ranch to join him for dinner.
“Hello, beautiful,” he says as soon as he answers.
“Hey there, handsome.Mrs.Grindle stopped by and gave me the most beautiful brooch.It has passed down through her family, and she wants me to have it for my something old.”I continue before Tyler thinks I spilled our secret.“She doesn’t know our plan.But she knows we’re engaged and wanted to give it to me.”
“That’s awesome.So you have old and new because of the dress.”
“And I bought something blue today.”
“Oh?”
“That’s all I’m saying.”
“Oooh.Can’t wait to see it.”
“You’ll have to wait.”I laugh at his dramatic sigh.“All that’s left is the borrowed part.”
“I’m sure we can figure out something.I talked to Clint about taking off on Friday, and he’s fine with it.Didn’t even ask me why.”
“Great.I’m off that day too.The landscaping project gets the final sign-off on Wednesday.I’m so excited.”
“Me too.We have the license.Everything is coming together.”
I’m amazed we’ve both been able to keep this a secret.“I’m pulling onto the ranch now.”
“Meet you outside the main house.”
I end the call and follow the road through the ranch.Tyler is waiting for me, wearing a huge smile.
“Only a few more days.”He spins me around before pulling me in for a kiss.
“Until what, Tyler?”Mason jogs up, his cowboy hat tipped back.
