His muscles tense as he plants his palms flat on the bathroom counter. “’Til I figure out what to do with you.”

“I thought you weren’t going to kill me.”

“I’m not.”

“Orhurt me.”

“I’m not. Unless you mean thegoodkind of hurt.” His gaze finds me in the mirror, so intense even as a reflection my stomach flutters.

“Y-you know what I mean, Gio,” I stutter, putting on a tough front. “Then why am I here? Why have you kept me?”

“Take a shower. Wash that sweet honey pussy of yours. Enjoy the lotions and perfumes and things I’ve brought you. Pamper yourself.”

“You picked out those products yourself?”

He nods.

“Even the hair care stuff?”

“You sound so surprised.”

“That’s because you picked products for Black women,” I say skeptically.

A low chuckle accompanies his smirk. “Do you think you’re the only Black woman I’ve been involved with?”

“Your ex-girlfriend isBlack?”

His blue eyes glisten out of amusement. “I like all colors of the rainbow, Falynn. Black being one of the sweetest.”

With that, he strolls past me out of the bathroom as if the discussion is over. I follow him into the bedroom.

“You bought me those things? Why?”

“Why are you suspicious? I believe a thank you is the proper reaction.”

“Thankthe man holding me hostage?” I scoff defiantly, glaring.

“For the last time, I’m not holding you hostage. You’re free to go anytime you like…once our transaction is over.”

“Unless you’ve forgotten, I’ve tried to get it over with!Youkeep walking away!”

He chuckles and pulls open the closet. It’s filled to the brim with a diverse selection of luxury men’s clothing. He chooses another dress shirt and pair of slacks.

“Cut the crap, Gio. I’m not stupid. This isn’t about me servicing you. This is about you disposing of me, isn’t it?”

He peeks at me from over his broad, defined shoulder. “No, Falynn, it’s about being able to tell you are faking. For a performer, you’ve failed to create that illusion. The fantasy.”

I don’t even understand what the hell he means as he quickly dresses. Again without an ounce of modesty as he drops his towel, and I try not to become a dick-obsessed thot ready to spread it low and wide.

“I have business to attend to,” he says, buckling his belt. Next he attaches his gun holster. “I’ll be back in a few hours. Stay put. Treat yourself.”

When he leaves, the door snicking shut, I sigh. I wait a while before I try my luck at the front door of the penthouse again. Louis still waits outside like the loyal watchdog he is for Gio. His brows jump in question the second he sees me.

“Um,” I say, flashing a nervous smile, “I know I can’t go anywhere. But…but I was hoping I could have my phone back. A girl’s got to stay preoccupied somehow, and I have atonof apps to keep me busy. It’ll help the time go by.”

“Sorry, Miss Falynn,” he says in a surprisingly gentle tone. “I have orders to limit your access to the outside world. That includes all communication devices with internet access.”

“Oh, okay. That sucks.”
