“No…”

“The insider you’ve wondered about? It’s the bitch in your bed.”

“NO!” I roar. I’m heaving for breath, a panic rattling in my broad chest. I can’t seem to calm down enough for my heart rate to return to normal, but at the moment, it doesn’t even matter. I back away from Pa, seated on the sofa with his twisted smirk.

But I have no defense. Because… because there’s a real possibility it’s the truth. I play back every moment with Falynn. The good and the bad. The moments she’s wormed her way into my good graces. The times she’s broken my trust or tested my patience. Every last memory is thrown into question. Was her loyalty ever mine in the first place?

I took her against her will. She made the deal out of spite. Out of a sense of survival. She was always searching for an exit, always biding her time.

I should’ve known better. Instead I let myself become blinded by a pretty smile and tight pussy. I mistook it for love when it was never anything more than a transaction. I’d bought her, and she was providing a service. She was never supposed to have any worth.

But like a fool, I gave it to her. I let the bitch use me.

Intense pain throbs at my temples. I clench my eyes shut and rub away the pain to no avail. None of it is anything I want to deal with, but it doesn’t matter what I want, or what causes me pain. If this is the reality, then it must be addressed. If Falynn is a traitor, if she defected to the other side, then I’ll have to dispose of her myself.

For as many men as I’ve handled, for as many dark deeds as I’ve done, the thought makes me nauseous.

“Giovanni,” Pa wheezes. With my lids shut, his smoky voice sounds from the dark corners of my mind. “You know what you’ve got to do.”
