The pain is immediate, stars bursting in front of my eyes. I drop to my knees against my will, unable to withstand the hit and stay on my feet. The throb in my jaw is so acute and intense, I worry he’s broken something.
He shows no mercy, giving no time to recover. He grips me by my hair and then rips his ski mask off.
My heart stutters in my chest. “Dante?!”
“This is for the fucking aerosol can,” he growls, and then he hits me again, knocking me out.
I wake up in a bed I recognize immediately—the king-sized bed in the master bedroom of the Sorrentino villa in Portofino. My jaw is so sore, it hurts to open my mouth. Dante hit me straight in the face. I shouldn’t have expected loyalty out of him. He’s Giovanni’s employee, not mine, but I never thought he’d treat me so callously. He’s always been kind to me, making me feel like a person and not just the boss’s wife. The betrayal stings.
Which means I can’t trust anyone. I have to get the hell out of here.
When I move to get up, I discover I can’t. There are metal handcuffs around my wrist tethering me to the bed, preventing me from going anywhere.
Plain, naked panic explodes inside of me.
Giovanni has not only found me, he’s brought me to his family villa. He’s handcuffed me to a bed. He’s taken meprisoner.
Guards stand outside on the terrace balcony. I’m sure they’re also outside the bedroom door. Padlocks and chains decorate the windows. The room has been turned into a prison cell. Tears fill my eyes as my heart shatters.
He’s really going to hurt me this time.
