“Maybe we can,” he says. “Do you think?”

It’s hope. Pure, brave hope as he peers into my eyes and waits my response. This powerful and dominant Mafia King staring at me like I’m the sun who rules his sky. I don’t know what to say, but my body reacts of its own accord.

I rise up as tall as I can to reach him and hook an arm around his neck, planting my lips on his. He immediately reacts, helping me. He holds onto me tight and kisses me as if it’s been on his mind every second for the last seven months we’ve been apart—knowing Gio, it probably has been.

I lose my head within seconds. Passion bursts to life inside me, doubling my already fast heartbeat and casting a wave of dizziness over me. I tighten my arm around him and let myself swim in the intense feelings Gio brings me.

“Honey,” he mutters, kissing me again. “Just say yes. You can feel it too.”

He’s right. I’m breathless, so dizzy I’m floating. The moment fills with the fervent smacks of our lips and our heavy breaths as we kiss and struggle for air. He rests his forehead against mine, both way too wrapped up in each other. Neither of us could walk away right now if we had to. We don’t have the strength to do it.

His hand rests on the side of my neck and he pulls me even more flush against him. He presses more kisses to my lips as if unable to help himself. His warm breath tickles my skin. I welcome the feel of his hard body against mine.

I’m shaky and emotional, in total surrender to the moment. I don’t just want Gio. I need him.

“Gio,” I puff.

“Just say yes.” He kisses me yet again, another full on-the-mouth kiss, sending me into another tailspin. His fingers glide along my throat, his hold just enough to apply pressure and stake claim, yet still gentle and light at the same time.

“Yes,” I moan.

“Yes?” He delivers another quick kiss.

“Oh… Yes….”

“Yes?” he repeats. He sucks on my lip, then kisses my jaw. “My new favorite word.Yes.”

“We should go.”

My brain doesn’t work. It’s processing each word at an aggravating and slow pace. I manage to string another sentence together.

“We should find somewhere else…more private…alone…”

“I promised myself I wouldn’t. As much as I want to—and believe me, Honey, I’ve done nothing but want it since we separated—today wasn’t about that.”

A whine leaves my throat. Now it’s my turn to tease him. I lean in and kiss his cheek and then ear, teasing the skin with a nip. “I want you to make me yours again. Show me how I belong to you.”

His large hands fall to my hips, clenching them tightly. The groan that leaves him is thick and primal.

“C’mon,” he says, taking my hand.
