“Why, Damon. Whatever do you mean?” She innocently bats her eyes.

“You know exactly what I mean. If you’re miraculously unattracted to Vedant, that’s your choice, but he’s my boss, Shaylea. And I don’t appreciate you putting my job at risk by making comments like that.”

A spark of anger darkens her gaze.

“Don’t flatter yourself,” she says as she yanks her arm out of my hold. “You’ve been coming onto me since the day we landed.”

I’m so shocked that I laugh.

Her gaze narrows to slits, and for the first time, I’m seeing a familiar face in that cold stare. I don’t know how I missed it before, but her likeness to Susan is uncanny.

Even more shocking is how I’ve barely noticed this woman when everything about her was once my type.

I don’t intend to tower over her, but my hackles are raised, and I want there to be no mistake where I stand. “Believe that if you want, but I want to be very clear. I’m with Kate and no one else for the remainder of this trip.”

She harrumphs like a bratty child before spinning on a heel and storming out of the shop.

The little bell above the door still jingles with the force of her exit as Chuck finds my side. “What. The. Fuck. Was that about?”

Shaylea struts down the sidewalk out of sight, blonde hair flaring wildly behind her.

“Trouble,” I say. “It seems you guys were right about her.”

Even after setting Shaylea straight, a thread of foreboding coils deep in my belly.

“Should we warn Vedant?” he asks.

I make my way back over to the desk and hand the woman my card.

To Chuck, I shake my head. “No. She won’t be bothering us anymore.”
