Page 99 of One More Kiss

I nip the soft skin of her shoulder, chuckling against her. “That’s the one.”

Her vanilla scent is thick between us, filling my nose with the sweetness of it. After the night we just had, I’m nervous as hell to tell her about Patrick’s offer. Not only because of how she may react, but because… I’ve officially decided to accept.

“Thought so.” She places a kiss across my knuckles.

My heart lurches for my throat.

London isn’t that far, right?

She’s used to flying internationally, and as associate director, I’ll be able to make my own schedule. I run through all the scenarios, deciding that we just might be able to make this work. It’s on the tip of my tongue, practically coating my lips.

But not wanting to put a damper on our day with worries of what’s to come, I decide to talk with her after the ceremony.

“That was one of the best nights of my life.”

The sheets rustle as she pulls them down to free her arm. Her thumb is warm as it glides over my cheek, eyebrow, and bottom lip.

“Me too,” she whispers.

As always, I lose myself in her gaze, but what I find there terrifies me. It mirrors every thought that clangs around my skull.

How I’ve come to feel so strongly for her… I don’t have an answer. At least not one that anyone would understand.

The sudden, forceful urge to tuck her into me and never let her go is overwhelming.

“Damon.” Her hand finds its way back to my face, tickling my stubbled jaw. “Will I see you after we leave Topica Bay?”

I slowly close my eyes, reveling in the essence of her a moment longer. “Yes, Kate. I’ll make sure of it.”

“What?” Chuck asks as I straighten my pale gray jacket.

We’re currently getting our suits fitted for the App Awards, but I stop a moment to consider my best friend.

“Nothing. I’m just happy to have you, Brandi, and the kids in Los Angeles.”

Chuck fusses with the collar of his dress shirt while eyeing me suspiciously.

“Ah, I remember those days,” he says on the tail end of a laugh before clapping me on the back.

“What are you talking about?”

“You’re in your feelings.” He points to the tie hanging up by my head.

I toss the red material at him, unwilling to admit that I’d already figured as much.

“My first date with Brandi, I knew she was it.” He cocks a brow, moving on from his tie to a pair of onyx cufflinks. “That woman fucked me so good that I wrote her a goddamn poem.”

I bite back a laugh. “A poem?”

“Haven’t been the same man since.” He winks.

We gather our discarded clothes and shoes before heading out of the dressing area.

“As hilarious as that may be, what does it have to do with me?”

“Come on, Damon. Are we going to pretend like Kate isn’t your Brandi?”
