“The East? Why did he bring you there? What did you do?”

“Nothing. Which I think was the problem. He gave me a speech about how he isn’t getting any younger, neither am I, and I really should think about settling down.”

“Ah, so he is hitting you up. Nice. So don’t miss that,” Walker said and leaned back in his chair.

“Thanks for the support,” I said and glared at him.

“Give me a break. It’s kind of funny. At least to me it is.”

“I’m glad I could be a source of amusement to you,” I drawled.

“It isn’t going to be funny if you’re messing with Hope. Morgan isn’t going to like it and I certainly won’t either.”

“Walker, not everything is about you. This is my business, stay out of it.”

I had been working for hours, I wasn’t in the mood to deal with Walker and him trying to make this about him and the company. It was my life, my personal life, and the last thing I wanted to be worried about was Walker or the company.

“This definitely has to do with me, the company, and the family. I’m good friends with Cole, Hope’s brother-in-law. Hope had been dating Bash Harris, who I’ve done some work with. If this is going to piss him off and affect the company or you’re doing this because you’re looking to have some fun and are going to hurt a woman that Morgan cares about, then you and I are going to have a problem.”

“It’s none of those things,” I said but I started to see why he would think that.

“Then what is it? What happened between you two?” he asked.

“As I was saying, I was having dinner with Dad when I saw Hope and Bash talking. I went over to say hello and I got the impression that Hope was trying to end things with him, but he wasn’t taking no for an answer.”

“Was he inappropriate?” Walker asked and sat up in his chair.

“No, nothing like that, more clueless. I could see she didn’t want to be with him. She was trying to let him down easily, but he’s a dude and we don’t always get subtleties and he certainly wasn’t. I could see she wasn’t getting anywhere, so I stepped in to help.”

“By announcing to the world you two are dating!?”

“I told Bash she and I had recently started dating, but it was new, and we were trying to keep it quiet,” I said.

“Oh, that was probably the worst thing you could have done. The man loves to be the first to know anything. Do you think he was still in the restaurant before he called his favorite tabloid or he waited until he got back to his hotel room?”

“It doesn’t matter. It’s out now.”

“What are you going to do about it? What do you want to do about it?”

“That isn’t just for me to decide,” I said.

“Glad to see you have figured out this is a group decision.”

“Not with you,” I said with a sigh. “Between me and Hope. This is between her and me.”

“Are you serious about dating her? I thought it was just a stunt?” Walker asked.

“It might have started out as such, but there’s no reason why it shouldn’t continue,” I answered.

“Is that wise?”

“Yes, it actually would be. For the company and the family as you seem so worried about. JD has apparently broken up with Lizbeth for the last time,” I said and showed Walker a social media post about it.

“I thought he had the last time he broke up,” Walker said and rolled his eyes.

“So, did I. I was going to talk to him about it today when this all came up. Normally, I would just let it fall out of the news cycle and let some other scandal take over everyone’s interest.”

“You don’t think that’s going to happen here?”
