“Who would have thought I would excel as a business owner, huh?” JD asked.

“All of us did. The entire family. Especially Bailey,” I countered.

“Bailey is the optimistic one of the bunch. She thinks we all are the greatest people in the world,” JD said.

“Sometimes. She wasn’t too happy with Mac and me when she started dating Luke,” Walker said and topped off our wine glasses.

“That was because you were trying to keep her away from him. The worst thing you can do with Bailey is tell her she can’t do something. Luckily, it got all figured out. I thought you guys liked Luke,” JD said.

“Yeah, he’s great. He makes Bailey happy and treats her right. I couldn’t have picked a better man for our sister,” I said.

“But?” JD asked.

“No. There is no, but. That was it,” I said.

Walker and JD exchanged looks and I could tell they didn’t believe me.

“What? I’m happy for her. I’m happy for the siblings that have found someone they want to settle down with,” I said.

“And so have you,” JD said to me.

“I’m happy with Hope but it’s in the early stages. There’s no need for anyone to start thinking about us settling down. If anyone should, it would be Walker,” I said.

“Don’t look at me. Morgan and I are doing just fine living in sin and loving every minute of it. We aren’t ready to get married, at least not right now,” he said.

“But you’re considering it,” JD stated.

“It might have come up, but I think we’re both good where we are. She’s just getting into her business; she doesn’t need to be distracted by our mother’s trying to plan a wedding.”

“Oh, so you have already figured it would be a big wedding?” JD teased.

“Come on. Look at me, at who we are. Of course, it would have to be a big thing. That’s unless someone else proposes first and takes the pressure off of me,” Walker said.

It took me a second to realize he meant me.

“You have a better chance of JD getting engaged than me. Things are still fresh with me and Hope?”

“So?” JD asked and put his arms on the table and glared at me.

“What do you mean, so?” I asked.

“You’ve been in love with Hope for years. You finally have her in your life, what are you doing to make sure she stays there?” he asked.

I didn’t look at him but felt a slight blush coming to my cheeks as I thought of all the things I had done with and to Hope to keep her in my life and in my bed. They weren’t things that I would share with my brothers, or anyone for that matter.

“By that look, I can see you’re doing a lot. You love the woman; you want to be with her. So, why not propose?” JD asked.

“Whoa. Hold off on that. There’s no need to rush into anything. Have you been hanging out with Mom?”

“Has she been pushing you to get married?” Walker asked.

“Between Bailey getting married, Walker in sinful bliss, and JD too busy opening his restaurant to have time for a woman, she’s been dropping subtle hints. Which is why I’m wondering if she bribed JD into doing some of her dirty work,” I said.

“There’s nothing dirty about what I’m doing. I can see how happy Bailey and Walker are. We all want the same for you. If you’re happy with Hope, then show her, tell her. Don’t let her slip through your fingers. That’s all I’m saying,” JD said.

“Who would have ever thought it would be JD telling me to run towards marriage. I always pegged you to tell me to go the other way. You’ve been quiet, which is unusual for you.” I said to Walker.

“You have and always will do whatever is right for you. Me telling you isn’t going to change that. You know Hope better than JD and I do. You’ll do right by her and yourself. When it’s time to profess your love for her and let her in on just how much and how long you’ve loved her, you will. Until then, just enjoy the ride brother. All of them.”
