“That your father lied to us, and because of it, I could never be with you?” she asked.

I gave her the slightest of nods.

“I don’t. No. Not in the least. I get the impression that’s how you see it. I appreciate that you were worried about me and how I would take this. But I don’t see it as your father lying to you, or deceiving me, I see it as him helping us. You said that you had been waiting for the right time to ask me out and seeing me at the bar gave you that. How can I be mad at your father when he was the catalyst that got us together? He saw what I should have seen years ago.”

“And what is that?” I asked.

“That you’re the most incredible man I’ve ever met. Being with you the last few months has been the best months of my life. You’re completely and totally in love with me and that you would do anything for me, including walking away from me and crushing your own heart if that was what I wanted.

“The only thing I’m angry at your father about is that he didn’t do it sooner. If he had, we would have been together sooner. The one thing I want is more time with you. I’m in love with you, and I don’t care how it happened or who did what or any of that. All I care about is that you’re in my life and that you aren’t going anywhere,” she said.

I stood up and walked over to her. My heart was so full of love and happiness I thought it would burst. I could see the same love and happiness in her eyes as she looked back at me. I took her hands in mine and brought them to my lips and kissed them.

“The only place I want to be is where you are. If you want to stay in New York, that’s where I’ll stay. If you want to go and see Berlin and do some research there, I will go with you. Home to me is where you are. I love you, completely, totally, with all my heart and I want a life with you, a future with you. Right now, there is only one place I want to go with you,” I said and gave her a knowing smile.

“Oh really?” she asked and moved a little bit closer to me. “Care to tell me what it is?”

“It would be more fun to show you,” I said.

I reached down and lifted her in my arms. Hope let out a shriek of surprise that was filled with laughter. Her arms came around me and she smiled up at me.

“That is the best idea I heard all day,” she said.

“Just wait until you hear my other ideas,” I said and brought my lips down to hers.

Epilogue

Three months later

Remy

“Are you bringing out the food?” MaryBeth asked Remy from the living room.

“Yes, dear. I’m coming out with it now,” he said as he walked into the room.

“Oh good. Everyone should be here shortly,” she said.

She looked nervously around the room as if she was trying to find something that was out of place and needed to be fixed.

Remy put the charcuterie plate down and walked over and stood next to her.

“I’m just so excited that everyone is going to be here,” she said and clasped her hands together.

“Me too. Have you talked to Mac since his flight landed?”

“Yes. He and Hope are doing just fine. Hope is a little tired but excited to see everyone. I told him she could put her feet up as soon as she got here.”

Remy looked down at MaryBeth and gave her a huge smile. He was excited about seeing Mac and Hope. They had gone to Germany two months ago for her to start working on the research for her book. They originally thought they were only going to stay for a month, but they were enjoying themselves and Hope was doing so well with the research that they decided to stay for another month.

While they were there, they had gotten married in a small private ceremony at a medieval castle in Hessen. They had promised Hope’s mother that they would have a bigger ceremony that she could plan when they got back home. She and MaryBeth had already started planning, but that was before they had told the family they were pregnant. Remy had a feeling that as soon as Mac found out they were expecting, he convinced Hope to marry him as they were already engaged.

Remy’s plan to have his family all married and happy was becoming more and more of a reality. If he knew Walker, he would propose soon, especially now that Bailey and Luke were married. JD’s restaurant was set to open in a few weeks, and he was more settled and content than he had been in a long while. Remy knew there was something missing in his life, something he knew he could help him find.

He had waited to set JD up as he was the hardest and the most scared when it came to love. His heart was a bit more delicate and convincing him to take a chance on love would take a bit more finesse. Remy hoped that with the call he would make tomorrow, things would start rolling and by this time next year, there would be a whole lot more happiness to enjoy.

He just needed his luck to hold out one more time and then everything would be perfect.
