“I can’t wait to see them,” I said. “I love that kind of stuff. Marco had to have been an adorable child.”

“Oh, he was. Believe me. He particularly loves the potty-training pictures.” Yasmine giggled. “He’ll make a big fuss about them, but he secretly loves it.”

“What are you going to wear?” Poppy asked. “I’m assuming not the yoga pants and plaid shirt you have on right now.”

I glanced down the front of my outfit. “No, definitely not this. I brought my light green sundress. Let me grab it.” I went to the utility closet, which had a fair amount of space inside, to get it. As I pulled open the door, memories of Marco bringing me in here a few short months ago, kissing me for the first time, popped into my mind with bright clarity. What an avalanche of events that had created. I pulled my dress from the hanger, smiling, remembering his firm lips and the crazy need I’d felt while kissing him. Back in the refrigeration room, I held the dress up to my chest and swung my hips around. “Is this too summery?”

“No, it’s perfect,” Poppy said.

“Completely adorable,” Yasmine said. “You look like a beautiful flower with your gorgeous red hair and green body. A beautiful red rose. It’s totally fitting.”

“You guys are too good to me,” I said.

“We’re the truth squad, dropping truth bombs left and right.” Poppy snorted. “You have this all sewn up. It’s going to be fabulous, and they’re going to love you.”

“I hope so.”

We were about to see.
