He held her hand, stroked the inside of her wrist and sensed her shiver. “I’m not ready to say goodbye yet.”

She gazed back at him, her blue eyes cloudy, and he realised in that moment that his heart was shouting something altogether different.

I’ll never be ready to say goodbye.

They both stared down at their joined hands. Oliver opened his mouth, shut it. Slammed the door shut on his foolish heart. “Thank you for a wonderful two months.”

She let her fingers rest in his, gave a tiny squeeze. Unable to stop himself, he turned over her hand, brought her wrist to his lips and kissed it.

There.

Right there.

Exactly where he’d kissed her that night under the stars.

For a long, long moment Felicity stared at her wrist, circled it with her other hand and when she raised her face, a single tear rolled down her cheek.

“We won’t say goodbye then.” Her chin trembled, for a second, just a second, before she pulled herself together. “We’ll just say,see you later, mate.”
