Ere knew that they’d never seen such a sight before:

Centaur warriors carrying their womentothe temple, not from. And the women who rode the stallions smiling with pleasure and hope.

The centaur males looked good, if Ere did say so himself. Their satiny hides shone in the torchlight, their mane and tails groomed and glossy. They didn’t look like uncouth, unruly invaders at all, though they still retained their raw, savage power.

What was most startling to witness, however, was that the women held onto them voluntarily, rather than being trapped against their will on the males’ backs. Loosely, some of them wove their fingers in the stallions’ mane; others wrapped an arm around the males’ chest. Still others held hands with their partners, showing without words that they’d chosen to be here.

They’d chosen these males.

Leading in the front of the procession was Andros with Divina. Looking every inch the demi-god and goddess they were.

People whispered with excitement and wonder.

This is meant to be, Ere heard some say.

It is the will of the gods.

They look so beautiful together.

We can live in harmony with the beastly protectors in the mountains.

The confrontation with the Archons and their soldiers should be a piece of cake, Ere thought.

But, what did he know.
