“Faster!”

He stretched his legs and arched his neck, his mane and tail silky black flags billowing in the wind. He ran until his muscles ached, until his heart pounded so hard it felt like it was trying to beat out of his chest. And then he pushed past the ache into a state of perfect flow and synchronization beyond pain.

Beyond boundaries.

He was one with the wind. One with the night that blanketed the earth.

He raced faster than the stars above. It felt like they were chasing him, but he was too swift to ever catch.

He was soaring. He was free.

And the fact that his woman was with him made it feel like he’d even outrun time itself. Every moment stretched into infinity. Etched in his heart and mind forever.

Divina’s carefree whoops of joy told him that she felt the same. They were one.

In all ways.

Finally, he slowed his strides, breaking into a canter from the mad-dash gallop. His muscles quivered from the exertion, his flanks heaving, nostrils flaring. A sheen of sweat coated his entire body, making his hide glisten.

When he slowed to a steady trot, he transformed back into centaur form and tossed his long, black hair away from his face, rolling his shoulders to loosen his tightly wound muscles.

“Th-that was…”

Divina huffed breathlessly against his neck, her hands shaking where she touched him.

“Freaking awesome!” she managed to finish in a weak voice, though her tone expressed utter delight and exhilaration.

“But, I think you better let me down. I can’t feel my legs or butt any more. I’m going to fall off any second now.”

Even as she spoke, she started to slide.

Within the blink of an eye, Andros transformed into man and caught her in his arms before she could tumble gracelessly to the ground. The saddle blanket that she’d sat on upon his back fell to his feet in a heap.

She looped her arms around his neck as he cradled her against him and murmured, “Well, that’s convenient.”

She peered down between them, staring blatantly at his rampant erection jutting past his navel, and licked her lips.

“That’s even more convenient. Is it the adrenaline from the run or is it just me?”

She grinned at him as her eyes sparkled like jewels in the darkness.

“Whichever the case, I’d love to be the beneficiary of this gorgeous gift. Better put me down so I can appreciate it up close and personal. May I?”

She said the strangest things. He didn’t always understand every word, but he comprehended her teasing tone and good humor. As well as her desire for him.

He set her on her feet.

Promptly, she crumpled to her ass in the field of flowers as if all of her bones had disappeared.

Andros knelt as well, putting his hands on her shoulders to steady her.

“Are you all right?”

“Just…give me a second,” she rasped, still short of breath.

“It’s one thing to fly like the wind when you’re in full control. It’s quite another to hold on for dear life when you’re riding and at the mercy of someone else. My muscles are jelly, and I’m dizzy from the high.”

“The high?”
