Chapter Five

“Underwear makes me uncomfortable. And besides, my parts have to breathe.”

—Jean Harlow

“You have your answer,” Sorin said in that smoky deep voice to the astounded, confounded horsemen, judging by their gaping mouths and wide eyes.

“Be gone.”

To emphasize his point, the warrior spun the broad sword in one hand and cracked the whip with the other.

Grumbling beneath their breaths, the men staggered away, groaning, moaning and cursing with each step.

Good riddance, Divina thought.

Chewie barked at their retreating backs, obviously thinking the same.

“Warn us next time you want to play knight in shining armor, Divina dear,” Ere wheezed as the horsemen disappeared out of sight over the hill, releasing a breath he must have been holding all this while.

“It’s not a matter ofwant,” she retorted.

“It’s a matter ofmust. There is no way I’ll stand by and do nothing while those monsters abuse this beautiful beast.”

Said beast chuffed gently in her direction, blasting her face with his horsey breath.

Aww, so sweet…but…

Yuck.

At the next village, she was going to find some tooth powder for them all.

Maybe she’d be lucky and stumble upon some mint leaves on the way. They’d only spent half a day in this time and place, but she already missed modern amenities, including her ultrasonic electric toothbrush and water flosser.

She hefted her boobs, making them bounce and jiggle within the confines of her tied-off tunic. The crisscrossing ribbons that wound around the cloth gave some definition to the sack, but otherwise, her assets enjoyed their freedom.

A nice Victoria’s Secret support bra with invisible underwire wouldn’t go amiss. And pretty lace panties. Maybe a thong.

Oh well, sacrifices must be made for historical consistency. Wouldn’t want to blaze a trail of fashion before its time and upset the Universal Balance in the process, after all.

Good thing she didn’t mind goingau naturale. On the bright side, her lady parts got to breathe.

She patted the horse’s chest affectionately.

“Sweet thing,” she cooed. “You played your part wonderfully. Thank you for not trampling me. Now, let’s see if we can get you out of these chains.”

It took some doing, but with Sorin and Ere’s help, they managed to break the lock that held the chains together.

As Divina carefully unwound them from the beast’s legs, neck and body, she saw the places that had been rubbed raw, in addition to old and fresh scars. As well as open wounds from the recent beating, the blood barely congealed and sticking to its dull, rough coat.

As she took in its deplorable condition, fury at the injustice done to it seethed anew.

The wild thing nickered softly and butted her with its nose, as if to say “I’m strong. I’ll survive. Don’t fret.”

She took a deep breath and tried to calm down, releasing the negative energy building within.

Animals could sense a person’s unease. She wanted it to feel her care and sympathy, not anger. Even if it wasn’t directed at the horse.

“You’re unequivocally ahe, huh?” she murmured as she examined each of his legs, checking for swelling, infection or other wounds that weren’t readily visible. As she did so, she glanced beneath his belly toward the rear, though his enormous size was already a sure clue.
