“We have to, do we?” Ere arched an eloquent black brow.

Divina speared him with a sideways glare.

“Of course! Everything happens for a reason. We’re meant to come upon these men and stop them from tormenting this beautiful creature. Maybe if he likes us, after we heal him, he’ll come home with me.”

“Home, as in the Celestial realm?” Ere clarified.

“Naturally.”

“You did hear the bit where Shifu said no one from this time and place can travel to the present, never mind the heavens?”

Divina shrugged carelessly.

“Fufu says a great many things. I’ll simply ask Papa Jade if I can keep him. I always get what I want. How do you think I have so many lovies in my paradise?”

“Lovies…” Ere echoed, his voice trailing off weakly.

Apparently, Divina had rendered him speechless. She had a feeling the male was seldom reduced to such a state.

She let him mull over what she said. She wasn’t going to change her mind. With or without their help, she’d take care of her beautiful black beastie.

Having finished checking the stallion’s torso, legs and hooves, she leaned close to instruct, “Lower your head, sweetheart. Let me take that awful binding from your eyes.”

Again, he did exactly as she bid, trustingly bending down so that she could reach his head, where he was most vulnerable.

Divina carefully unwrapped the pads from the stallion’s eyes, though he kept them squeezed shut for the time being.

She understood.

Who knew how long he’d been blinded like this. He must be able to feel the afternoon sun and its bright rays even through his eyelids. He needed a bit of time to prepare himself and adjust.

“Come on, handsome,” she coaxed, taking advantage of his nearness to stroke his silky muzzle and cheek.

“Open those gorgeous eyes. I want to see you, and I want you to see me. You have the thickest, longest eyelashes I’ve ever seen. Even on a horse! Pretty enough to make a girl jealous. Come on…don’t be shy.”

Slowly, his eyelids fluttered and raised, revealing the astonishing bright violet orbs behind them.

Divina gasped with recognition.

She knew this stallion. She’d know those eyes anywhere.

It was the colt she’d seen in the Mirror Pond.

Her heart gave a heavy, definitive thud, beating out one clear message in her mind:

Mine.

A full-bodied shudder flushed through Andros’ muscles, down to every sinew and bone, the moment their eyes met.

He couldn’t look away from the small human female.

She was…

Not what he expected.

The way she’d leapt to his defense, the way she shouted and fought against his captors… He thought she’d be a terrifying creature, albeit with a big, brave heart.
