Divina knew he was confused by her sudden awkwardness around him. But knowing what he was, whohe was…it changed her entire perspective.

This changed everything.

If she got on his back now, even sitting on the side instead of astride him, even through a thick layer of blanket, she feared he would feel her wetness soak through layers of fabric and into his sleek black hide. He’d surely smell her uncontrollable desire regardless.

Divina didn’t know what to do. She was so embarrassed.

She’d always rejoiced in her sexuality, indulged in flirtation with the opposite sex, and she absolutely adored sex itself. This wasn’t common among dragonkind. Because dragons, however mythical, were animal spirits at heart. They tended to mate for life like other animal spirits. Otherwise, they were solitary creatures.

But Divina was a fertility dragon. A creator dragon. She loved to nurture and grow things. Take care of her creatures.

And she loved all forms of love. Innocent, sexual, passionate, heady. The mating between two bodies was the ultimate expression of love. As she loved to be in love, she loved to express her joy in sex. It was great fun, promoted a healthy release of endorphins, and was a key contributor to her cheerful, happy-go-lucky demeanor.

This was different.

She didn’t know what precisely was the difference, but she felt it nonetheless. For the first time, she didn’t want to tease and tempt a male she desired into a sweaty, mutually satisfying romp in the nearest bed (or grassy field, as the case might be).

Well, she did.

But she was afraid.

The uncontrollable need she felt when gazing upon this centaur was unlike anything she’d ever known. It was a force of nature. And though she was dragon and not easily cowed, she feared getting swept away by the hurricane of feeling brewing inside her.

For the first time in her long existence, she was totally out of her depth.

But the decision was taken out of her hands when Sorin hefted her up and practically threw her onto Andros’ back, just like he did the day before.

“Oof,” she grunted, scrambling for something to hold onto.

On pure reflex, she grabbed at his hair, where she would have clutched his horse’s mane in equine form.

“Sorry!” she squeaked when she pulled too hard, forcing his head to tilt back.

He twisted his human torso to look back at her, shaking his head a little to loosen her hold.

“You can hold onto my mane if it makes you feel safer,” he said without the slightest sign of irritation. “But it’s easier if you put your hands on my shoulders or hold onto my side.”

To show her, he pulled one of her hands to his steely serratus muscles and flattened her palm on his warm, satiny skin.

“All right?”

Divina might have whimpered or mewled. Whatever sound it was that she made, she’d never before heard such a needy noise pass her lips.

Ugh! What waswrongwith her!

“Now that that’s settled,” Ere said grouchily, “can we get this show on the road? We might even make it to the fort by mid-afternoon. We have a lot to do.”

Thus, the four of them set out toward the base of the Pelion mountains.

Because Andros had the best sight with his height advantage, and because he had much longer legs, he pulled out a few yards ahead of Ere and Sorin with Divina on his back. Chewie bounded back and forth between the two groups, panting excitedly and wagging his bushy tail.

In normal circumstances, Divina would be gabbing away a mile a minute by now, as she had done yesterday. Before they came upon Andros shackled and beaten as a horse. She wanted to ask how he felt. Whether his wounds were bothering him. Whether he’d eaten, drank and rested enough.

But the words stuck in her throat. She felt so tongue-tied around him. This half-man, half-beast who carried her on his back like she’d been born to the position.

The motion of riding him was unspeakably erotic. It reminded her exactly of how they would move together in a different sort of ride. Where she would be astride, with nothing between them. Their bodies united as one, undulating like rolling waves, sighing like the sea foam kissing the beachy sand…

In the end, it was Andros who broke the silence between them.
