He wasn’t usually such a wanker; he could be sympathetic when he wanted to be. When Ere loved, he loved deeply. His friends, family, and of course, his eternal Mate. He wasn’t usually a hater either. He’d known plenty of hateful people, and Divina was nothing like them. She didn’t have a bad bone in her body. But, somehow, she just rubbed him the wrong way.

“You don’t understand,” she protested, running faster to catch up to him, then shuffling her little legs double-time to keep up with his ground-eating strides.

“Enlighten me.”

Sorin grumbled again, pulling up alongside Divina, as if showing his support by being physically by her side.

Even though he wasEre’s Mate. And if he picked a side, he should be onEre’s side, damn it!

“I barely know him, first of all,” she said quickly, as if afraid Ere would interrupt her before she could get all her words out.

“There’s this…unreasonable attraction. I’d take advantage of it for the duration of our quest if it were any other male. I’d show him a raunchy good tim—”

“No need for details.”

“Well, I would. I’m superb at sex. It’s easy to be good at something when you have natural talent and you love to practice.”

Ere rolled his eyes.

Oh, the arrogance. Shesorubbed him the wrong way.

“Like I said, too many details. Get to the point.”

Out of the corner of his eye, Ere caught Sorin’s glare. He didn’t care.

Well, he did.

He hated when his Mate disapproved of him. But this female had an incredible ability to fry his nerves!

“I don’t think he’s the kind of male who can just have sex and walk away,” she said softly in that small, guilty voice.

“I think he wants more. I don’t think I can give him what he wants.”

“Why not?”

“You don’t even know me or you wouldn’t ask!”

“That’s why I’m asking.”

“I’m just…I’m just not the type of woman who commits to one man!”

“No need to shout at me.”

“I’m not!”

“My bleeding, tender eardrums beg to differ. You’re speaking with exclamation marks.”

Divina took a steadying, fortifying breath, her mouth flattening into a thin line.

She looked pissed. Ere approved of this look more than the blotchy, red-faced blubbering.

“You’re not very nice,” she noticed.

“Neither are you.”

At this, she stumbled and gaped at him.

“I’m the nicest person in the world! Everyone loves me! I make people happy! I love my babies—”
