Everything was as prepared as they could possibly be. The militia had retired for the night, resting while they still could. There was no telling when the jötunn would come. If they slept at all, it would be with one eye open.

And then, she came.

The figure of her riding upon her flying steed was merely a speck in the distance until they drew closer, a swathe of black like an avenging crow.

He rose from the boulder he sat upon to greet her as she dismounted, his axe leaning against the rock, his arms already extended to embrace her.

She came to him immediately, her arms wrapping around his neck, her mouth attacking his with fervor.

He growled low in his chest with satisfaction.

He would never tire of her insatiable desire for him. This unquenchable passion between them. It roared hotter the more they came together. A flame that only grew; never waned.

Finally, she unsealed their lips, but kept her limbs tightly around him, holding him close.

“We will have reinforcements on the morrow,” she rasped, short of breath from her furious flight and their impassioned reunion.

“Aye, you said five other Valkyries will meet us from the East,” he recalled.

She smiled triumphantly.

“More. I borrowed Heimdall’s horn to call the rest of the Valkyries from across the nine worlds to join us. They answered my call. We will be eleven in all.”

He shook his head at her, humbled and stunned.

“What you are doing… this is not your fight. I do not want you to get punished for—”

“And what can Odin do?” she cut him off mid-sentence.

“The gods need us for Ragnarök. Odin would not extinguish us for breaking the rules to help humans. Any other ‘punishment’ is trivial.”

“But…”

He stared into her ocean-green eyes.

“You are here for me,” he said meaningfully.

Here to take him for Valhalla, Kai gathered. Or whatever she decided to do with him.

It didn’t matter. He’d given himself to her fully. Unconditionally. Marked his body to prove it.

He chose her.

“Aye,” she answered firmly, without the shadow of a doubt.

“I am here for you.”

But not the way you think, he somehow heard her voice in his mind.

“You aremine, dragon,” she vowed vehemently.

“I will always protect what’s mine.”

Emerald green speared into molten flames.

“But for now…before the storm…”

She leaned closer and wrapped herself tighter around him, mouth brushing his so that their breaths mingled in heated puffs in the frigid air.

“I will take you apart piece by piece, and let you do the same to me.”

His pulse spiked at her words, heart pounding with undiluted lust.

“Take me to bed, warrior. Make me scream your name.”
