Eli nods violently and scrambles up to leave as soon as Ezra releases his hand.

“You okay?” he asks me once he’s shut and locked the door behind him.

“Yeah, I’m fine.” I feel dirty and shocked and kind of scared, but I don’t voice that bit. Ezra didn’t see the look of pure evil on Eli’s face. There’s no doubt in my mind that if he had the opportunity to, he would hurt me, and I have no idea why. “I’m gonna go shower.”

I scrub myself until my skin is sore. Even without touching me, I feel like his gaze is imprinted on me. Such a private and vulnerable moment, not meant for anyone else to witness, violated. When I get out, Sawyer is still furious. Even more so, and it dawns on me.

“You told him?” I say to Ezra.

“Yeah. Why wouldn’t I?” he asks.

“He’s still your family. He doesn’t need you both to hate him.” I don’t want Ezra to have to choose. Who chooses a girl they met weeks ago over their own flesh and blood?

“He needs to keep his thoughts about you to himself.” I can see they’re too angry to reason with right now, so I nod and walk to my room.
