And as much as I hated the idea of ever being bound to anyone else like that, I hated the idea of being separated from Raina so much more.

“Tell me, Dikie—how do we get my human back?”

“You gave me the human stuff. Name, address, and all that good stuff. The fastest way to find her would be magic and for that, I need something of hers.”

“We don’t have anything. We gave her the car to get away in and didn’t leave anything at the house.”

Xian grunted in agreement. “We’ll have to go to her address to get something.”

“Hold on, faeries,” said Mia. “Look at your clothes. If you’re anything like Kier, you were all over the poor girl. See if you can find a hair.”

“You’re helping now?” asked Xian.

She widened her stance and tilted her shoulders back slightly. It was subtle, but we all recognized it for a fighting stance. As though she were getting ready to attack. “I might not approve of anything you’re doing, but that doesn’t mean I want an innocent woman harmed.”

“Shut up and focus,” I ordered as I stripped off my jacket. Mia had spent hours in the car, sleeping on me. If there was any trace of her beautiful blonde locks, it would be there.

Xian couldn’t do much, so he went right back to bickering with Mia. “Raina isn’t some defenseless flower, believe me.”

“Oh... Did she get one over on you? Did Xian finally meet a woman he couldn’t charm? Well, two if you count me. The elves might love you, but you’re really striking out with humans.”

I found a hair and pulled it free, thrusting it into the half-breed’s face. “Here. Take us to her now.”

Dikie grumbled but was smart enough not to say anything to my face. No magic was immediate, especially not one that would have to transport so many of us, but I couldn’t stop myself from rushing him.

If Seran had Raina, he could be doing anything. He could be hurting her. She could be screaming for my help right now, and all I was doing was sitting around here, playing referee to Mia and Xian’s bickering.

The foundation around us shook and cracked, and everyone turned to stare at me.

“Get on it,” I grumbled to the half-breed, not making any excuses for what happened. “As soon as we have what we need, we attack.”
