“I have half a mind to encourage Violet to pursue Levi Wilmington,” she muttered.

“That sounds like an excellent idea,” Lucy agreed. “We shall have at least two chances in the near future to ensure they are thrown together.”

“Let’s do.”

They both beamed at each other conspiratorially. The others all returned with fresh cups of tea not long after.

Lucy glanced around at all of the women gathered there. She felt welcomed by all of them. She was so happy that she had opened up to let friends both new and old into her life.

She was looking forward to Dinah’s wedding, and then, in the near-distant future, to her own wedding. For once, the future was full of hope and adventure.

She certainly planned to spend her time working on her paintings and reading, but it would not be alone. Silas would be there, to love her. All of her friends would be around her. She could have both—her quiet pursuits and friendships.
