DANE 5

The minute I let go of Kane’s neck, Dag is pushing him out the door just in case I change my mind. I sure feel like killing the fucker for thinking that he is going to kiss Freya with the pretext of work. Well, if her work entails that motherfucker putting his hands anywhere near her, then she is going to change professions.

“Are you mad? Why would you nearly kill him?” Freya seems so distraught she has tears streaming down her cheeks. My heart tightens at her obvious distress. Fuck, what kind of mate am I when I put her in distress like this?

“He wanted to kiss you.”

“That’s part of the movie; it’s not a real kiss.”

“Really? Explain to me then what other kiss there is that doesn’t involve him putting his lips on you?” Fury is coursing through my body when I think about the fucker coming anywhere near Freya. I slam my fist into the wall next to her, causing her to jump in surprise.

“It doesn’t mean anything. It’s just pretend.”

“Listen to me, Freya. No man, pretend or not, is going to touch you.” I know that I’m being hard on her, but she needs to understand that I will not have any other man near her.

“You are being bull-headed,” she huffs angrily with her hands planted firmly on her waist. Fuck, she’s beautiful when she’s angry. Placing my other hand flat on the wall next to her head, I lean forward, caging her in between my arms.

“You belong to me—mine. No other fucker will touch you.” I capture her lips in a blistering kiss. She will know what belonging to me feels like. She will want no lips except mine when I’m done with her. I feel her fist punching my chest in frustration before her hand slips up around my neck.

“There’s a room just down the corridor,” Dag quips from behind me, which has me flipping him off. Lifting my head, I glance over my shoulder to glare at him for the disruption. He shows me his phone. “Garth contacted me.”

I know that when Dag went after the car that threw the brick through the window, he contacted Garth with a plate number. Garth must have found the culprit.

“You want to head out?” I ask, knowing that there must be a name for him to interrupt us.

“Yeah, I think you need some fresh air.” If he only knew how right he is because if I stay here any longer, I will have Freya’s legs around my waist, and I will be buried deep within her body before she even realizes it.

“Fine. I’ll be out in a minute.” Dag nods before turning to make his way out of the house.

“Eirik?” I call, knowing that he will look after Freya like she was his own mate, but I still need to confirm.

“Yeah.”

I nod my thanks, looking back at Freya to see a curious expression.

“Be good. I’ll be back soon.” I lower my head down to kiss her, but she turns her head away from me at the last minute. My hand snaps to her jaw, turning her head so she is looking directly at me. “What?”

“You think you can kiss me, and I’ll just forget that you nearly killed a man,” she whispers, her eyes snapping upward.

“But I didn’t, so all is good,” I mutter as I let go of her jaw. I turn to leave, but her hand on my arm stops me.

“Try not to kill anyone else, okay?” I can see a flicker of worry in her eyes before she looks down.

“Are you worried about me, sweet cakes?” My question has her eyes lifting back up to mine before she huffs and walks back to the table where we were sitting at earlier. Her show of worry has me grinning as I make my way outside towards my bike where Dag is waiting for me.

“Looks like you’re in a better mood,” Dag quips with a raised brow as he leans forward to start his bike.

“So, what do we know?” I ask, ignoring his previous comment.

“Garth ran the number plates. Apparently, the car belongs to a Mr. Fredrickson.”

“Is there any connection?” Who the hell is this Fredrickson, and why does he want to hurt Freya?

“No, unless Freya didn’t do an assignment.” When Dag sees my confused scowl, he grins. “Apparently, this Fredrickson is a teacher.”

“Well, let’s go see what he has against my woman.” He better hope that I like his answers because I’m not taking too kindly to the idea of him wanting to hurt Freya. We make our way towards where this motherfucker lives. I follow Dag, already wishing I was back at the house with Freya. I know that as a mated couple, we miss each other’s energy when we are apart, but I never thought we could feel the separation this soon after being with the other.

I’ve always been protective of others, especially women and children, but the feeling of protectiveness that I have towards my woman is so much more than that. I feel a strong need to have her close and make sure that she is out of harm’s way. The possessiveness is new to me, as I’ve never been possessive about much except for my motorcycle. To know that someone wants Freya harmed, has all kinds of feelings that I’m not used to, messing with me.
