“We have nothing to say, asshole,” the one that groaned snaps.

Tor’s eyes turn to him and I swear that they are a glacial blue as he squats down before him. “I warned you.” His voice is low as his hand snaps out, tightening his hold around the man’s upper arm. A minute later the man is gasping and trying to fight his way out of Tor’s hold. “I’m waiting.” The man screams in pain, as I see smoke and a horrid smell of burnt flesh emanating from him.

“The woman… The woman!” the man cries.

“What woman?”

“He’s… after Sean’s…” He stops talking and passes out.

Tor pulls his hand away and grunts as he looks down at his bloody hand—blood that belongs to the man he just tortured. He turns to the other man that is looking petrified. I don’t blame him I’m petrified and I’m not one of them.

I see Tor raise a brow as he takes a step towards the man. “Sean doesn’t . . . doesn’t like that. . .” The man is stuttering so badly that his words are hard to understand. “He is looking for… for… for his woman.”

“Did he order you to kill Dag?”

The man nods.

“Asger, take the women and Dag back to the club.”

My gaze immediately turns to Dane, who takes a step towards me and bends his head down to kiss my forehead.

“It will be fine. I’ll see you there.” Somehow his words don’t appease me as I know that they’re probably going to go after Sean. He will probably get arrested for sure now. I shake my head. Maybe if I go with them, I can somehow stop him from doing something that he might regret.

“You might need me,” I murmur, which has him suddenly grinning. I don’t see where he sees the amusement in the situation. I have just seen a man passing out in pain and Dane is acting as if this is an everyday occurrence.

His fingers stroke my cheek gently. “Trust me, everything will be fine. Now go with Asger before any cars come this way.” I didn’t even think about traffic. Luckily, there haven’t been any cars since we were first ambushed, but what if someone came this way and saw what was happening?

“Okay.” I lift up on my tiptoes and kiss his lips once again before stepping back, then I’m walking around Tor, leaving a wide space between me and him. I’ve always suspected that he was dangerous, but he has just confirmed my suspicions. Tor has been nothing but friendly since we met, but now, I see him in a completely different light. I’m nearly in the van when I feel a hand on my arm, making me cry out in surprise, only to realize that it’s Anastasia.

“Sorry, thought you heard me,” she says as I slide into the back of the van, Anastasia climbing in next to me.

“No, my mind was miles away,” I confess. She takes my hand in hers and squeezes. I don’t know if she’s trying to comfort me or herself, but I think she’s just as shaken as I am with everything that happened today. It started out as a bad day with my mom making an appearance and now this.

No one talks on the drive back. When we arrive, we make our way inside to find Garth and Einar waiting for us. When they see Dag, they both scowl in anger.

“Fuckers. I hope they’re dead,” Garth grunts.

“Dag, you should go rest,” Anastasia says. “I will call Monica to come in and clean the wound for you.”

“It’s just a scratch, sweetheart.”

“Yes, but a scratch can get infected and I’m sure even you can get an infection,” Anastasia argues.

“Actually, it will be difficult for him to get an infection,” Garth says, but when Anastasia raises a brow at him, he quickly changes his tune. “But it won’t kill you to get it clean, maybe Monica can even give you a sponge bath.”

That is something else that is completely alien to me, as I’ve always been a loner, so coming into an environment where women give themselves freely to different men without any emotions involved is something that I will need to get used to. I don’t judge them, though. They seem happy and the men treat them really well. What I don’t like is the fact that they have been with Dane. Sometimes I wonder if he will compare me to one of them. They must have a lot more experience than me.

The first two weeks, I noticed that Tracy, Monica, and Camille were cautious and at times, purposefully ignoring me, but I think the last week they have warmed up a little. “You might be right. I’m feeling slightly lightheaded all of a sudden,” Dag quips.

“Men,” Anastasia grumbles. “Come on, Freya. Let’s leave the men to their little jokes,” Anastasia says as she starts making her way towards the interior of the club.

“Do you know if my mom left a message before she went?” I ask.

“Nope, your mom and the agent left right after you,” Garth replies. I can see what looks like pity in his eyes, and I hate the fact that my mom came here. Now everyone will know what kind of relationship I have with my mother. I’m a private person and like to keep my problems and affairs to myself, but I’ve come to realize that here, everyone knows what is happening, but also, I’m starting to accept that they genuinely care for each other.

“Thank you,” I reply as I follow Anastasia. I see that she is waiting for me near the rooms.

“Do you want to go for a swim? I think we can both do with a little chill time.”
