Page 61 of Finding Beau

“Hey, no need to feel stupid. I feel the same way. It’s been four days since we last saw each other, and I’ll admit, this has been the best time I’ve had in ages. I don’t want it to stop. If you’re free, I’d like to see you again this weekend.”

“Let me see how tonight goes. If I do well, I might have to go in on Saturday, but you could come over. Come see me in the new bar. It’s a step up from Whispers anyway.”

“Anything would be a step up from Whispers, Beau, in more ways than one.” He went quiet, and the rustle of paper that met my ears reminded me we were both covered in cooling cum.

“You’d best go get cleaned up. I need to shower and be out of the flat in about half an hour, probably less.”

“Let me know how you get on, though. It doesn't matter how late it is. Good luck, Beau.”

I thanked him, ending the call and throwing the phone on the kitchen counter. It’d be a rush, but I could just about get there on time. It wouldn’t do to be late for my trial. I really needed this job.

I arrived with about five minutes to spare and was led to the manager’s office to run through a few things first.

“Hi, Beau, I’m Simon, the owner and manager here. I see from the CV you left that you’ve experience working behind a bar, so I don’t think you’ll need much in the way of training. I assume you know how to work the tills and card machine.”

He sat back in his chair, and I took a good look at him. He was probably in his late forties, well-spoken and well dressed, his black shirt fitting his body like a second skin, a smattering of greying hair peeking out of the neckline. He was good-looking, I supposed, in a classically handsome way, but he didn’t interest me. No, my interest was in a certain young blue-haired man.

“Hi, Simon, yes. I’ve had training. Worked in a few bars and clubs the past few years.”

He looked down at the sheet of paper in front of him. “I see you recently left Whispers. Can you tell me why you left?”

What should I say? The owner didn’t like the fact I refused to let him fuck me? I wasn’t sure that’d go down well, so I improvised, telling the truth without being truthful.

“I, erm, had an issue with one of the members of staff there. I decided I couldn’t work there anymore. It was kinda personal, actually.” I’d tell him the truth if he asked, but he said nothing and stood from his chair.

“Well, let’s see how you get on tonight. You’ll be working with Josh and Anna. Josh has been here since we opened and can show you the ropes, no problem. Anna’s been here a few weeks. I’ll catch up with you both later on, but you’ll probably only be here a couple of hours. A trial only usually lasts that long but gives us an idea on how you’d fit in. How does that sound?”

He smiled, a warm smile, not at all like Bernie and his lascivious sneers, and I immediately felt at ease. If the rest of the staff were like this, I would be looking forward to working here.

Four hours later and I was still working the bar with Josh. The night had turned busy, and if I had to guess, I reckoned I’d got the job. My phone had been buzzing in my back pocket for the last hour, and I assumed it was Kwan wondering where I was. I’d told him the trial was for two hours.

The customers had finally started to thin, and I was able to take a quick break, grabbing a cold bottle of water out of the fridge. Josh had said we could have anything within reason, no alcohol but soft drinks were unlimited as long as we didn’t take the piss. This was a far cry from Whispers, where only bottled water was allowed. Bernie was a skinflint and didn’t give anything to his staff.

Leaning against the bar, Simon motioned both me and Josh over to him, a broad smile on his face.

“Well, guys, seems like the night was busier than we thought. How did he do?” He looked at Josh, who nodded, an impressed smile on his face.

“He did good. Kept up with the flow, chatted with the customers. He didn’t get any drinks wrong that I’m aware of.” He shrugged. “I’m happy with how it went.”

Simon looked over at me and held his hand out. “Looks like you got the job. Josh can manage with Anna now, so let’s sort out the paperwork.”

“Thanks, man.” Josh held out his fist, and I bumped it. I liked him, liked Anna too, and I was pleased I’d managed to get the job. Fuck knows I needed it with the rent going up.

I followed Simon back to the office and sat while he gathered a stack of papers in front of me, just as my phone buzzed in my pocket.

“Do you want to get that?”

“No, it’s okay. I’ll call him when I’m done.”

“Boyfriend? Don’t worry. We’re cool with that here. No judgement or anything like that.”

“Erm, yeah. I said I’d be finished a couple of hours ago, so he’s probably wondering where I am.”

“Ok, well, not much longer and we’ll be done.” He clicked his pen, handing it to me. “Get ready to sign your life away.”

After fifteen minutes, I was pulling on my coat, ready to leave.

“How did you get here?” Simon asked.
