“I’m with you, and Sammy wants to go as well. Let’s just go.” Cho stood, Sammy too, and they both looked over at Saul.

“It’s getting late, Saul. We’re going to head out. We’ve done our bit. We sang, we danced, and no one will notice if we leave. Kasem is keeping Beth and her friends happy. She’s not bothered with us anyway.”

Saul’s glassy eyes belied his steady voice. “I said, ‘no’.” He rose from his chair, stumbling as he did so, almost falling over the rope into Beth’s arms.

The bouncer grabbed hold of his arm, steadying him.

“I think you’ve had more than enough, sir. Perhaps I can call a cab for you and the group. I’m sure Bernie won’t mind if you have to go.”

Shrugging out of his grasp, Saul straightened his cream linen suit, creased from having sat in it for most of the night.

Ty unclipped the rope, and we all filed through, smiling and waving at the few ladies gathered there. Kasem looked at me like this was all my fault, the tic in his jaw showing just how annoyed he was at being dragged away from his adoring public.

I didn’t care, though. We’d been up at the arse crack of dawn, and it was nearing midnight now.

As we walked past the bar, I saw Beau, laughing and joking while he poured drinks for a group of guys. He looked up at the last moment, his eyes meeting mine. God, he was gorgeous when he smiled, and I found myself returning it, hoping he’d turn up the following night. I really did want to get to know him, even though it might only be for a night. It’d be worth it.

A thought hit me, and I raced over to the bar, reaching across to grab a piece of paper and a pen. After scrawling my name and mobile number on it, I managed to snag his attention and slipped it into his hand.

“Now you have my number.” I stared at him for a moment longer when I felt a tug on my sleeve.

“Kwan, come on. Saul’s waiting outside.” Sammy pulled a little harder at my sleeve, and I reluctantly turned away, taking one last look before finally leaving the club.

“Something catch your eye, Kwanchai? A rival for Cho, maybe?” I knew Kasem’s teasing was more than that, and I really needed to be more careful. I couldn’t give him more ammunition than he already had.

“It was just the guy I helped at the bar. No one special.” I climbed into the cab and sat next to Cho, blowing out a breath. That was close.
