Sophia

When I step outside, a gasp escapes me. I feel like I'm walking into a fairytale, with the positioning of white chairs on either side in a row, with a trail of red rose petals from the entrance leading up to the center of a beautiful white gazebo wrapped in twinkling white lights.

“This is beautiful, Andrei.”

“This was all Elena. Tell her when you see her.”

As we head to the front row, I feel eyes following me, and I hear murmurs coming from the guests. Just ignore them, Sophia. Keep walking. Maxim leads me to the first seat in the front row. Right across from where he is going to be standing. Really? I give him an incredulous look.

He shrugs. “I don't want you out of my sight.”

“Insane.”

He grabs me and makes a show of kissing me. Annoyed with the way he’s acting, I push back.

“Go, people are already whispering.”

“Fuck them.” He gives me one more deep kiss before standing next to Andrei.

Taking a seat, I try to ignore the piercing stares hitting the back of my neck. A girl with a green dress taps on my shoulder, and I turn to look at her.

“What makes you so special?” she says and runs away, crying. What the fuck is up with that? Looking back toward the front, I see Maxim has his angry face on. I don’t want him to do anything stupid. I give him a soft smile and blow him a kiss. His lips twitch. I didn't expect anything from him in return. He has a reputation to maintain, after all.

Soft instrumental music plays, and Elena walks out of the hallway. She looks like a princess in a stunning floral dress with a plunging neckline that delicately spreads into a ball gown shape before descending into a chapel train. When she passes by me, she stops and hugs me. I whisper in her ear, “You look stunning.” She pulls away with a soft smile and heads to her future husband. I still find her very young, but who am I to judge?

“The ceremony was lovely, and everything looked amazing,” I tell Elena when she sits next to me.

“You think so?”

“Yes, it all came out perfect.”

“Thank you. I didn’t have much time to plan.”

“How are you feeling?”

“Tired but happy.”

“After the honeymoon, please pass by the clinic. I want to check up on the baby.”

“I have been meaning to ask you when I could come by but haven’t had the time.” Someone walks up to her to congratulate her, and I use that as an excuse to make my way to the bathroom.

After using the bathroom, I see the girl with the green dress waiting when I walk back out. I move around her, but she moves in front of me. What could she possibly want with me? I don't know her.

“Can I help you with anything?”

“What makes you so special?”

“You already asked me that. If you want me to answer, you need to be more specific.” I have a feeling I know what is wrong with her. She plants her heels down on the ground in a fighting stance.

“Maxim. Is that specific enough?” I was right.

“What about him?”

“Why is he with someone like you?” Is she going to stoop to that level?

“Isn’t that something you should be asking him?”
