Page 100 of Small Town Love

I wave and head back down the path to our car. Heath got out to open my door for me and I drop a kiss on his lips as he helps me up into the passenger seat.

“Where are we going?” I ask him.

We take turns planning our dates, and this month is his turn. I’m excited to see what he has set up for us.

“It’s a surprise,” he says as he laces our fingers together and I rest back against the seat and let him drive.

We talk about our businesses on the drive. Both are doing good and this last year we’ve been talking about expanding. Maybe open a diner in the next town over or something. Heath had mentioned opening a place up in Fallen Peak so he can see his friend Graham more. He knows I get along with Graham’s wife and the kids have fun playing with each other, too, but it’s quite a drive.

“Ready?” Heath asks as he parks outside of our cabin.

We’ve had to add onto it twice now as our family grows, but it’s perfect and the kids love coming up here for long weekends to camp.

I let Heath lead me inside and I grin when I see the tent set up in the living room.

“Just like that first night,” I say and he grins at me.

“Yeah, but now I can do all of the things that I wanted to do to you back then.”

“Oh, is that so? Are there a lot of things?” I ask as he leads me over to the tent.

“So many.”

I giggle as he kisses my neck and I look around the place. There’s a campfire nightlight going in the fireplace since it’s too hot to light a real fire and string lights zig zag over the ceiling, making it look like stars.

“I love it. Thank you for doing all of this for tonight.”

“I’d do anything for you, Caroline. You know that.”

He’s right. I do. He’s been the best husband, the best dad to all of our kids. He’s so patient and he always makes time for each of them so that no one feels left out.

I duck inside the tent and smile as I see the mountain of pillows and the sleeping bags lying on the floor. There’s some snacks and drinks in a corner and an iPad next to it.

“Are we watching a movie?” I ask him as I lay back on the pillows.

“If you want.”

“I want to do something else,” I say, grabbing his shirt collar and pulling him closer to me.

“Yeah?”

“Yeah,” I whisper a second before our lips meet.

I wiggle out of my maxi dress and Heath pulls away to stare hungrily down my body.

“Perfect,” he whispers in awe and I love that even after all of these years he still can’t get enough of me.

“I love you,” I tell him and his eyes meet mine.

“I love you, too.”

He spends the next few hours showing me just how much.
