She makes me crazy.

A volatile and unhinged level of crazy.

And I don’t appreciate that.

Most men who elicit such emotions from me don’t even stand a chance against my wrath, but here I am with mydarling girlwho makes my blood boil, tucked up in bed.

“You really think she’ll last the six months?”

Sebastian has kept quiet since we left Natalia’s room. He’s not even looked like he wanted to say anything, and his quick wit has been stowed away. He’s also left me to sit on the balcony outside of my bedroom, staring straight at the skyline of London as if it holds every answer, but I can tell he’s getting restless.

“I don’t think she’s got it in her anymore.”

“I do,” I mutter, rubbing clammy palms over my thigh. “She’ll do it just to piss me off.”

He chortles. “Okay, fair point.”

He leans against the railing, just off to the side so he doesn’t disrupt my view.

“Do you want her here?”

“Bit late for that.” I flick my eyes from the city to my best friend. “Don’t you think?”

“We could make her disappear for good. Andreas played a good role.”

“He was a means to an end.”

“Maybe so, but he’s still a Giannotti, Beck.”

I rub my jaw. “They won’t miss him.”

He deflates a little. “How did she even get mixed up with the Giannottis?”

“We don’t know half of what she did with her life while she was gone.”

And that’s something I can’t seem to compartmentalise. I know what I did with the last decade of my life, but no one knows what she’s done.

“Why don’t you go and find out?” he asks, his tone softer now.

I scoff. “You think she’s going to be truthful with me now?”

“She’s concussed.” He shrugs. “Go talk to her before the doctor turns up.”

“You called him, then? Thought we’d have it handled without him.”

“You smashed her head into a brick wall. Be sensible here.”

“Sensible,” I mutter wryly.

Bit late for a lesson in sense and sensibility.

“Look, I’m the backup. I do this sort of shit to make sure you don’t have to.” He gives me a sideways grin. “Isn’t that what you pay me for?”

It’s getting close to two a.m., and I’m restless, but that doesn’t mean I’m prepared for Sebastian’s childish quick wits.

“I’m going to go see her.”

Deciding it’s better to confront the situation I’ve made happen rather than long this out, I know I have a duty of care to make sure Natalia is as okay as can be. This part of my plan did not have a lot of forward planning. I seized an opportunity. Anger drove me to the lengths I took to get her here, and now I have her, I’m not about to waste a moment.
