He let out a long sigh. “I’ll have a talk with Janie, Daize, let her know where things stand. I sure wish Ty would date her, or someone else nice. She’s a good girl.”

“She is,” Daisy nodded. Giggly with nerves, she said, “You shoulda knocked her up instead of me, Hank. Imagine how pretty she’d look in all those new clothes she’d go buy, her belly out to here.”

“Shush, Daize.” He shook his head, pinching her waist gently. “Stop makin’ trouble.” Then he dropped his lips to her hair, his voice soft. “I wanna stick around ‘til you finish tonight, make sure you don’t get tired out, alright?”

She looked up into his gentle eyes. They held so much concern for her. “Uh-huh. And I’ll drink ginger ale instead of margaritas, for now. Daphne knows what’s up.”

“Guess you didn’t have much time for ridin’, yesterday, huh?”

She shook her head. “Nope.”

“How ‘bout I feed for you tonight? I can grab the trailer and take Lucky back to my barn, see how he gets on with Cuervo? It’ll be good to know, before we load them in the trailer tomorrow. You can stay with me and ride tomorrow morning if you want. We don’t have to go to Lamesa. Might be nice to have a slow weekend together.”

Daisy smiled. She never would have guessed how nice it would be to have Hank Gallagher making plans for her. “I don’t want to miss Lamesa, Hank. Jillian and Hasty will be there, I gotta get some points this week, and you went to all the trouble with Lucky. You think he’ll behave himself, trailering with Cuervo?”

“We’ll know tonight,” he grinned.
