King is unusually silent. He looks deep in thought.

“Penny for your thoughts?” I rub his arm.

“Just thinking,” he replies.

“About?”

“Didn’t we just have a conversation like this?” he chuckles.

“You always answer a question with a question?” I snicker.

“No. I’m just thinking about coming out of retirement,” he says. I didn’t see that coming.

“Are you sure?”

“I am,” he smiles at me.

“I’ll support you no matter what you do, but why now?”

“Only thinking about it. I’ll talk to my uncle Monday and make the final decision. He’s my coach,” he says.

“As long as you are happy,” I link my hand with his.

“Thank you, angel.” Whenever he calls me that, it makes my heart jump. The way he looks at me takes my breath away. He is truly an amazing man. I get one day with him to just lay around in bed or whatever without any interruptions.

“If you did fight, could I come watch?” I ask him.

“Would you want to? I know how you feel about it,” he says.

“I want to.” I truly do and of course, I’ll be at Thorn’s fights.

“Then yes, you can come,” he winks at me. “Maybe you’ll be my good luck charm.”

We pull into the drive and start for the front door when Kingston pulls me back. I look up to see the door is open.

“Go sit in the truck and call the police,” he urges and I nod, doing just that.

I call 911 as Kingston enters the house and tell them there’s been a suspected break-in. I’m told the police are on their way and that I should stay in the car. I do just that.
