“Please sit.” Snow gestures to a chair.

She signs again.

“She doesn’t want to intrude,” Afton translates.

“It’s not an intrusion.” Silas moves to make room for her.

She blushes. I thought Ever seemed tiny next to Memphis, but Aspen next to Silas is like a mountain and a flower.

“Oysters on one grill,” Axel says. “Bacon-wrapped asparagus, shrimp, and corn on the other.”

“Just keep checking. The oysters need to steam until open. Did you put the water in with the foil when you placed them on there?”

“Yes, bossy.” Axel pouts.

“Just keep checking them. The others won’t take long, but I would turn them in a couple minutes.”

“Gotcha,” Axel says with a nod.

“Aspen, what do you do?” Snow asks.

She waves her hands again.

Afton interprets for her again, and I’m grateful. “She says she hasn’t worked. She helped her local library. But her mother didn’t like her to work, needed to be prim and proper and Page Six ready because her father is important.”

Snow smiles at her. “We have a library here. I’m sure they would love to have you if you want to stay.”

She signs, “Thank you” again. I guess I’m picking up some stuff.

“Afton, are there classes online we can take to learn?” Austin asks.

“Of course,” Afton confirms. “I can get you some good ones. I brush up every now and then. I’ve kept in touch with Aspen more than London, but he was busy, and well, there was all that shit with his dad. She even comes to games.”

“Jealous.” Austin grins.

“You’ll be at my first game next month,” Afton tells him.

Austin nearly jumps for joy. “Thanks, man.”

“Get the food, crazy.” I push Austin toward the grills.

“Okay, grumpy,” he mumbles, and I just chuckle.

I watch Snow interact with Aspen, and again, wish London was here.
