Page 12 of Snow's Storm

Snow settles on the bed, and I turn the TV on, handing her the remote. “Find something to watch. I’ll be right back.”

“Thank you.” She smiles sweetly.

“Anytime, sweetheart.” I shut the door and take the stairs two at a time.

“How is she?” Shane asks as I enter the kitchen.

“In your room watching TV. I came for food.” I smirk.

“Always about the food, never about me,” he teases.

“Always about you,” I whisper in his ear, and he visibly shivers. Good.

He packs up several Tupperware bowls, cramming a lot in each one.

“You think she’ll be okay if I join?” he asks.

“I’m sure she’d love that,” I reply, loading up the food and bounding up the stairs.

Before we go in, I stop him with a hand to the arm and do what I’ve wanted to for a long time. I kiss him. And he lets me. He doesn’t fight it. He may struggle with this later, but he’s giving me this, and I’m over the moon.

“I’ve wanted to do that since the last time,” I say, and a light dusting of pink colors his cheeks. It’s adorable.

“Shall we?” I gesture to the door, and he opens it, only to find Snow fast asleep.

Shane chuckles. “What do you want to watch?”

“Whatever.” I set the Tupperware down as he gets her more comfortable, changing the channel to an action movie.

“Shane?” I ask, shifting to face him.

“Yeah?”

“Do you regret kissing me?”

“I might be confused, but no,” he admits, and I breathe easier.

I get what he means. I was confused most of my life. And I’ve kept my true self hidden. But I don’t have to hide with Shane or Snow or any of the others. The only thing I’m worried about is disclosing it to the world.

We watch TV for a while before I get up to leave, but Shane catches me.

“Stay, let the others party,” he whispers, patting the bed next to him. “Ever won’t mind my absence for the last half. She knows the state of Snow’s health right now.”

Maybe he wants to try, and I’m willing to do that. He puts his arm around me and pulls Snow in closer on his other side, and for the first time in a long time, the three of us sleep, all the while the party continues on downstairs.
