With one arm, I brushed the hair free from my neck, exposing my flesh to him. Giving it to him if he wanted to take it. He sniffed the air and I knew he had paused.

I smelled of him. His seed was still damp between my legs.

I lifted my head and saw him watching me. He had stopped for a moment. Slowly, I lifted myself off the ground and he growled, but I held my hands up and he paused once more. I took my shirt by the hem and lifted it over my head. Next, I unbuttoned my pants and slid them down my hips as I kicked off my boots. I tossed my clothes and my gun to the side.

I dropped carefully to my knees once again.

“Axel,” I breathed quietly as he strode toward me. He stopped, as he stood before me. He took his claws, dragging one across my back and I whimpered.

I had to bring him back, so we could escape together before it was too late. I knew I was taking a chance. I knew this decision could bring about my death, either by his hand or the bombs that were minutes away from destroying us all. But we had a love worth dying for. I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t try.

He knelt before me and I spread my legs, exposing my naked, cum-slathered body to him.

His nose smelt the air and the fiery blaze in his eyes burned hotly.

I began to grow nervous. Would he just mount me instead, rut me until he was done with me? Or would he come back from the brink and leave the beast within him behind?

This was no time for me to lose my nerve. We were both as good as dead if I didn’t succeed.

I crawled toward him and he snarled, but I didn’t stop. I reached for him, curling my body around his leg, running my fingers up and down his heated flesh and he paused. I grew bolder still and rose to my feet as he continued to growl. I reached up and took his chin in my hands, bringing his lips down to mine.

He tensed at first, not responding for a good long second as I kissed him. I grew more desperate, moaning into his mouth, crying for him until I felt his arms curl around me. He kissed me back then and I felt my body mold to his as he lifted me off the ground.

My entire body hummed for him as he kissed me back and I knew then that I had succeeded. My arms wound around his neck and my legs around his waist and I clung to him.

The kiss was liquid fire. I saw stars and at once, I had hope.

I’d brought him back from the brink.

Finally, I pulled away from his kiss and looked up at him. His eyes still burned bright and his skin was still red, but I could see him in there and not just the beast within.

“The drones are almost here. We have to get out of here. Is there anywhere safe?” I shouted, the hum of the drones buzzing loud.

I knew they were close. We only had minutes left.

His eyes grew wide with fear and his arms tightened around me.

He held onto me and tore off into the forest. Sprinting through the trees, he held me close as branches and leaves whipped against my naked body. He dove in and out of the trees until finally, he stopped and jostled me to the side. I watched as he pushed a few bushes aside, revealing a metal door beneath the brush. He grabbed the handle and the door flew open. He jumped inside, completely bypassing the ladder that descended down. He landed hard on the ground, at least twenty feet down and the door above slammed closed. He let me go and I landed on my feet as he used both arms to tighten a metal wheel on the wall beside the ladder. I looked above as I watched a giant metal plate move into place, completely cutting us off from the world above us.

Lights hummed on inside, powered on by some sort of

either generator or other power source. I realized then that Axel had brought us to some underground bunker.

Before we had too much time to explore, the entire structure began to rumble, and I knew the bombing had begun. I froze, and Axel took me in his arms, taking us further into the bunker. I shut my eyes, trying to focus on the beating of his heart and not the bombs pelleting the surface above, trying not to think how everything could collapse on us from above.

When I finally opened my eyes again, Axel had brought us into a big, luxurious bedroom. He sat me down on the bed and knelt before me, pressing his lips to my fingertips.

“We’ll be safe here for the next few days. There’s food and drink, supplies meant to feed a large group rather than just us,” he said.

“How long will the bombing last?” I whispered, feeling the earth rattle around as one after another bomb exploded above us. I shook with what I could only identify as shock.

“Another hour or so,” he answered.

“But you said we’d be here for days? What kind of bomb is this?” I asked.

“It’s a bomb with a very special addition that my kind is especially weak to. There’s this thing called a Nano swarm, where their only mission is neural shredding. Had I been out there, it would have turned my entire neural system into dust. It wouldn’t have killed me quickly, as my body would fight it, but eventually, I would have been killed,” he explained.

“And for humans?” I pressed, almost afraid of the answer.
