“Let her rest now. We should check on the status of our ship in the meantime,” Ryder said in my head, only this time, he kept his eyes on mine, studying my reaction. I heard him just fine, but I schooled my reaction and kept calm.

It was a weird development, but maybe I could figure out a way to use it to my advantage. I let my gaze slip from one to the other and they all held steady.

None of us did anything.

“I don’t think we should leave her alone though,” Davon protested.

I pulled my knees into my chest, feeling Ryder’s cum drip down my thighs. I tried to look innocent. If they were smart, they wouldn’t leave me alone. It would definitely be a mistake on their part. I’d find some way to escape and disappear back into the woods.

I knew how to survive. I’d done it for years. It was strange how the human mind could acclimate, could learn the skills needed to survive even when I’d grown up with all the technology in the world. Even if the Vakarrans were stronger than us, humans were at least adaptable. I was confident that one day, we’d get our freedom back.

My jawline tensed under their scrutiny.

Morgn nodded in Davon’s direction.

“Agreed,” he replied, this time talking out loud.

“Agreed to what?” I protested, pretending like I didn’t know anything. Ryder smirked, and I faltered slightly. He knew. Fuck.

“She can rest this evening. We’ll take her with us and handcuff her to the bed tonight. We’ll continue her training then.”

I pressed my lips together so I didn’t say something rude. With all four of them watching me at any moment, I’d had more than enough for what I wanted to handle so far today. My chest rose and fell as I struggled with the difficulty of staying quiet. It went against my nature.

Aarom moved forward first and offered me his hand.

“It’s chilly outside. Let’s find something to cover you up, at least until we bring you back here tonight,” he said.

I allowed him to lead me out of the room.

After exploring through the apartment, we found a fancy closet that the rich apartment owner’s wife must have had and the two of us dove in, choosing a garment from the digital screen mount and watching as the inner clothesline sprang into action.

Chapter Eight

Morgn

I watched Alaina walk away with Aarom, her fucking gorgeously marked ass swaying back and forth. Fucking little cock tease. I grinned. I kind of loved it. I was a little jealous of Ryder. I understood that it was his right as our leader to lay his claim first, but I wanted to whip her pale little ass and make her scream with my mark. Mine. I wanted to hurt her, stripe her as mine with my welts, and see how wet she became because of it.

My dick hardened just thinking about it.

I shifted myself, trying to relieve the ache, but it didn’t do any good. All I could think about was forcing her to bend over so I could take her from behind and punish that ass of hers good and hard with my cock.

We had more important things to worry about though. Like how the hell she was hearing our telepathic link in her own head? We relied on that link for communication, strategy, and more. She shouldn’t have access to it. She was just a human and we were Vakarran.

“Have you heard of anything like this before?” I began, narrowing my eyes in confusion as I stared in Davon and Ryder’s direction.

“There’s been whispers in the network, but it’s mainly been hushed and shut down as quickly as they post. The higher-ups want to ensure no one thinks of humans as their mates, just their breeders. Rumor has it though, that somehow, our genetics intercalate with theirs and they start to exhibit signs of some Vakarran skills, like our link. It’s temporary at first, but the longer the Vakarran is with the human, it seems the stronger the effect becomes,” Davon replied.

As much as I teased him for being younger and inexperienced, and clearly dumb enough to get captured by a human, Davon was our tech genius. He understood how things like lasers and dark matter engines worked. He knew how to access the underlying dark network, apart from the one the Vakarrans had built to communicate with each other across the vastness of space. He knew things about the black market, secrets about our superiors, and things I couldn’t even hazard a guess at.

He was an integral part of our team, but I’d never tell him that directly.

“You mean some sort of genetic link? Does it happen with all humans and Vakarrans?” I asked. I’d never heard even a whisper of such a thing before.

“No. It doesn’t. It seems to happen in a very low percentage of matched pairs of the combination of the two species. I know some superstitious Vakarrans, mainly those who are suffering in exile, believe it’s some sort of fated mates nonsense. Like if this happens, the pairs are meant to stay together,” Davon answered.

I scoffed. Fated mates? How ridiculous was that? Sounded like a bunch of bullshit to me. I wasn’t going to pay it any mind.

“Anything else?” Ryder pressed, “other than just our communication link?”
