My eyes slid closed once again and I knew no more.

Chapter Five

Taraik

I watched her sleep for a good few hours after that. Watched the angelic expression on her face, untarnished by her scars from the past. After we’d taken her for the first time, her eyes had been clear, free from the pain of whatever memories were destroying her from within.

Xandaar went off to prepare his supplement mixture for her and Zac sat beside me, watching her too. Roan checked in with our superior officers, deciding that for now, he wasn’t going to report her existence just yet. We wanted more time with her and I was afraid if the higher-ups learned of her true identity, they’d try to make a public example of her and I wasn’t sure she was mentally prepared for something like that just yet. We had a lot more work to do in order to make her whole again.

I’d always had a mental aptitude for sensing and reading people’s emotions. It was an ability that few Vakarrans were blessed with, and I believed it was passed down through my bloodline. My father had it, as well as my grandfather and I hadn’t really found a good use for it until now. I could read Danika better than anyone, even amongst the four of us. I knew she’d had some terrible experiences and blamed herself for them. Those human men had broken her, and I just wanted to put her back together, make her whole again. I wanted to understand her and make those dark feelings disappear forever, but she had to let us inside. And in order to do that, I had to understand what had broken her in the first place.

Pleasure was one way into her head. Pain was another. She seemed to enjoy both, which was an interesting combination, because I did too. I like it when a woman squirmed beneath me, when she begged me to take her hard, like I really wanted to. I liked to see my mark on a woman’s body, be it on her breasts, her ass, or her pussy, but what I liked most was getting into their heads and I wanted into Danika’s. I wanted to know what made her tick, what made her such a little fighter, and what tore her apart and shattered her to pieces. I wanted to put her back together and make her mine, once and for all.

For that, she’d have to learn to trust us.

For hours I watched her sleep, contemplating my next move. As she lay naked in my bed, her shiny brunette hair sweeping out in a wave behind her, I admired her pale skin, finally unmarred from what those monsters had done. No more bruises, just beautiful porcelain skin. She was a little skinny, but under our care, she’d gain some weight and have a healthy glow once again.

I sent Zac off in search of food for her, and when he finally returned, he had a massive plate of bread, cheese, and fruit, plus a bottle of wine. Even I licked my lips at seeing what he brought. The smell of food must have jostled her awake, because I saw her stretch and yawn in my peripheral vision.

I got up and went to check on her, bringing along a comb from the nightstand. I sat beside her and took her long locks in my hands. She flinched at first, before blinking and looking back at me with fear until she realized it was me. I took her shoulders and gently turned her back toward me, combing the tangles from her hair. I brushed it until it shone, and she was sighing with pleasure, before I kissed the top of her head and lifted her from the bed.

“Come now, let’s get some food in your system,” I said.

I sat down beside the table and deposited her on my knee. She turned back toward me and studied me. I could read her apparent suspicion in her body language then, knew inherently something was different in her once again. I knew then that she was going to begin rebelling, pushing boundaries until she realized how far she could push us. Subconsciously, she wanted to experience a true punishment, to see how bad it could get for her. I was instantly on high alert, knowing she wasn’t ready for something like that yet. I knew we’d have to start slow. A simple move of discipline. My palm twitched in anticipation.

“Why are you being so nice to me. You’re Vakarran. Isn’t it your job to make me your sex toy or something? Beat me into submission if I don’t call you Master?” she scoffed, and I couldn’t hide my smirk at her admirable attempt at goading me into action.

“Why, do you want us to?” Zac joked, his voice light and the smile on his lips giving away his always apparent sense of humor.

“I don’t care for unnecessary brutality,” Xandaar responded.

“Why do you think we would hurt you?” Roan asked, raising his one eyebrow with curiosity.

She was quiet for a long time, trying to pick her words carefully. She was hiding something, I knew that much. My little dove had plenty of secrets in

that head of hers and I intended to learn them all.

“Well, that’s what the rumors always said. That the Vakarrans were conquerors and they’d kill anyone in their path to get it,” she whispered softly, her lower lip pouting just the slightest bit as she stared at the plate of food. Her stomach growled audibly, and I reached for a piece of cheese myself, bringing it toward her. She went to take it from my fingers, but I gently smacked her fingers away. Instead, I brought it to her lips, forcing her to take it from me and establishing my dominance over her in that moment.

She was so hungry, she didn’t really fight me and let her hands fall to her sides. I fed her, bit by bit as Roan told her a little about our species and our history. How that during an invasion, things were different than an occupation. How it didn’t do us any good to damage our human women, because then we wouldn’t have them to carry our young.

“Not every Vakarran feels like us though, Danika, so it’s important you stay here with us and you listen to what we say,” I said, and she stiffened in my arms.

“I don’t listen to anyone,” she argued, and I chuckled. Oh, yeah. Definitely pushing the boundaries. Roan’s eyes flickered with excitement for a second.

“Don’t fight us, Danika, it will only end badly for you,” I warned. She shivered, entirely naked in my arms and I couldn’t help but notice how her nipples hardened at my threat. Interesting… I’d have to explore that even more.

I took one hand and rubbed it up and down her left thigh, while continuing to feed her with my right.

“Roan, we’re going to have to report her eventually. We can’t keep her hiding in this tent forever. Someone will find her, or she’s going to disobey us and end up being discovered. She’s a Stryke and with that, Commander Nix will want to personally see to her training or maybe he’ll even want to see her punished himself,” I said, using my link. Roan stiffened, and I knew he feared such a prospect as well.

“We’re going to have to train her ourselves. Teach her to obey us in all things, no matter what,” he answered.

“We can register her as someone else. Fake her last name as something else,” Xandaar added.

“In no way can Nix get his hands on her. She couldn’t handle that. She’s not strong enough. Those men broke her and I’m not sure how much she can take,” I murmured, studying the way she held herself. She was perched on my thigh, just enough so that if I made a grab for her, she could make a run for it. Like a damaged little bird, always ready to flee.

She was going to take a very special touch, this little dove. Our human.
