Lexie

NavandLexiehad moved themselves to the shaded cabana. At this point, they had been gone from their group of friends for nearly six hours and no one had come to check on them. She laid next to Nav with hesitant contentment. She was partially terrified their friends would catch them in the act and partially enthralled with the idea. Nav shifted beside her on the bed, sitting up and reaching down to grab his trunks. She sat up onto her elbows and watched him with a questioning glance.

“It’s so hot in this cabana, I gotta get into the water for a bit,” he said as his cheeks flared even redder than they already were. She had to agree. After their sweaty bodies tangled together, she was feeling the heat of the day cast upon her as well. She grabbed a towel off the bench in the cabana and yelled out to Nav, who just stepped into the tiny pool of water.

“Can you throw me my suit?” she asked.

He nodded and grabbed the tiny fabric of her suit out of the pool. He wrung it out between his hands and tossed it to her. She used her left hand to hold the towel closed as if Nav didn’t just see every intimate part of her, catching the suit with her other hand. The smack of the wet fabric hit her hand and the strings dangled against her arm. She stepped back into the cabana and put the wet fabric onto her sweaty skin, eager to get back into the water to cool off.

Nav lowered himself onto one of the chairs and Lexie laid beside him on the other. She tilted her head toward him and found herself overwhelmed with emotion. It was the first time she had allowed herself to be intimate since Oliver’s passing and part of her felt guilty or ashamed for the pleasure she felt with Nav. She knew it didn’t discount the relationship she had with Ollie, but part of it still felt wrong. The other part of her loved indulging in every moment and sincerely hoped there was more to come.

“So,” Nav cleared his throat and raised his voice slightly. “That was nice.” He turned toward her, casting a big smile upon his face.

She returned the smile and spoke softly. “Yes, it was.”

“But,” he continued, and her heart began to palpitate, “whatever this is or might end up being, I don’t want to be in the closet about it. We tried that once and failed miserably. I want to make sure we are on the same page. I know I once told you labels were trash, but I was wrong. If I get the opportunity to be with you again, I plan to shout it from the rooftops.”

Lexie stared for a moment processing. Three years ago she would have been the one asking the tough questions. She was constantly asking for clarity on their on-again-off-again relationship. But now, she wasn’t sure.

“I think...” she paused and sat up, tossing her legs into the water between them. “Well, I don’t think I’m ready for a full-on commitment. Not yet. But I would like to see where this could go. We have both transformed into these new versions of ourselves and I want to get to know this Nav.”

He sat up, mimicking her posture. “I’m all in, Lou. And I’ll wait as long as I have to for you.” He stood and took one step toward her, towering over her, blocking the sun. He knelt down and kissed her cheek before looking her in the eyes and nodding behind her. She turned her head to look behind her as Nav took a step back. Sedona and Eagle were walking hand-in-hand toward them.

“Well, well. If it isn’t the missing couple,” Eagle called out.

Lexie stood in the water and smiled at the happy couple while cringing internally as they both turned toward the bed, likely making note of the messy sheets. Nav cleared his throat and stepped out of the water walking toward Eagle.

“Yeah, I found this awesome spot this morning during my run.” Nav shifted on his feet and looked around.

Eagle stared at Nav and raised his eyebrows. “And?”

Lexie placed her hand on her mouth, stifling the nervous laugh escaping from her lips. Sedona looked over at her and narrowed her eyes. Nav looked at Lexie with wide eyes. She nodded and shrugged her shoulders in response before standing and walking to him.

“Well. And I guess Lou and I...” he trailed off, running his hands through his hair and looking down.

“We had sex. Right there,” Lexie announced as she pointed to the in-pool chaise, “and there,” she said, pointing to the bed. “Oh and over there, Nav ate--” With a giggle, Nav pulled Lexie toward him and placed his hand over her mouth.

“I think that’s enough detail for now,” he said with a menacing grin as he let her go. She leaned into his touch and his arm wove around her back.

“Okay well, at least we’re being honest this time. That’s a good start!” Eagle said with a laugh. “You guys want to head back to the house? Staff left some prepped pizzas for us for dinner tonight.”

Lexie looked up at Nav. Part of her wanted to stay here all night long with Nav, but she knew they needed to make an appearance with their friends before the day was over. Maybe we can sneak back out here after dinner, she thought. She nodded into the crook of Nav’s arm as he still held her tightly to him. Eagle shook his head and clapped Nav on the back as they turned around and walked back toward the beach.

Lexie grabbed her wetsuit and followed after Sedona and Eagle.
