“Perfect. What about the first dance? Do you know that?”

Nav turned to face Lexie. “Lex? I don’t know what Sedona decided on.”

She nodded and scrolled down Sedona’s note on the phone. “Yeah, it’s ‘Sing for Me’ by Yellowcard, but it needs to be the acoustic version.”

“Ah, yes. I remember us talking about that on the phone,” Jay said as he scribbled it down. “Alright, so any special requests throughout the night? Anything either party doesn’t want me to play?”

“They’d like to keep country songs to a minimum and they’d be happy to have any oldies, especially the 1990s and early 2000s,” Lexie said as her eyes glazed over Sedona’s notes. “Oh and she says absolutely no to the ‘Chicken Dance’,” Lexie said with a chuckle.

Jay nodded and scribbled again. “That’s a common request. Nav, any notes from Eagle?”

“Nah, man. He didn’t really prepare me for this meeting. I think Lexie hit it all.”

She turned her head to look at Nav and he shrugged in response. She waved the phone toward him and shrugged back. “Yeah, I don’t have any other notes from them.”

“Well, what about the two of you? Any requests?”

Nav turned to look at Lexie and she stared back in response. Her mind flipped through the memories they had together. The first time they ever danced together in middle school, the first time they danced in high school, and the countless nights dancing by the tailgate in college. She fluffed the memories from her brain and shook her head at Jay. “Nah, this is their day.”

Nav nodded in agreement.

“Aight, well I got what I need. You two are free to head back to the cabin. Thanks!”

Lexie nodded and spun on her bare feet, walking out the back door through the sand and onto the wooden dock. Stepping onto the boat, Lexie took a seat at the front and to her surprise, Nav sat beside her. She scootched herself over, giving space between the two of them.

Nav’s voice carried over the sound of the motor. “Do you think we could talk at some point this weekend?” His voice was laced with butter and she wanted to fall into his arms and forget all the heartbreak.

She turned to face him and opened her mouth to speak, but pulled it shut, pursing her lips.

“You can’t ice me out forever! You haven’t even let me explain anything, Lou!” he said with passion.

She looked over again and could see the pain in his eyes. She knew that look and knew he was being honest with her. “Yes, we can. But not now. I promised Sedona a drama-free weekend and her Maid of Honor balling her eyes out over a boy she used to love isn’t exactly fulfilling that promise.”

Nav smiled with one side of his mouth and stood to step off the boat.
