She watched as Scott’s face filled with hope and the barrel of the gun met with her back again.

“What part of not talking to him do you not understand?”

She ran her fingers across her mouth, zipping her lips with a nod. Scott’s soft chuckle followed them down the hallway and they made a left past the kitchen and a right into the floor level master bedroom suite.

“Close the door.” Gerald motioned with the gun, too preoccupied with the shifted granules on the tray to do it himself.

Tessa felt the latch catch with the fingers of her left hand still pressed against the wood as she reached down to slowly unzip her fanny pack.

“What do you got there?” Gerald yanked her back, sending her flying onto the bed.

Tessa panicked and moved the pack to her side as she shrugged. “Condoms?”

Gerald smirked, climbing onto the bed and shoving her legs to either side of his knees. His dirty hand reached for the button on her jeans. “You want to get right to it. Here I was, thinking you wanted to play.”

Bile rose in her throat as she wrapped her legs around his back, drawing him closer with his beard hovering above her face and he looked to her with drug tinted lust.

She bit her lip. “You need to undress first.”

Dirty yellow teeth spread into a wide grin and he leaned down. His rancid breath was a hot whisper next to her lips. “I’m going to make you forget your husband’s name.”

Her left hand slid up the carotid artery on the right side of his neck, teasing the skin as she reached for his shoulder blade. She stared at him with wide and imploring eyes as she moved her right hand to grab the left side of his sweater and tugged gently on the fabric as if to pull it over his head.

“A choke hold is like this, but you could also do this…” Landon peppering her cheeks with kisses as they wrestled in the living room.

Tessa arched her body and pulled the man closer as her ankles locked around his back and his rough hands roamed down her sides. She gripped the fabric tight, clenching it in her fists, and pressed the bones of her wrists in a vice like grip around his neck.

Gerald slammed his hand down on the mattress, missing her head by a few inches, and she tightened her grip. “You can put someone to sleep in 30 seconds.”

“What would happen if I did it for longer?” Tears rolled down her temples as she squeezed the man’s neck with all of her strength. He barely struggled before collapsing on top of her and then his body twitched, the drugs still coursing through him as he slipped away.

Her muscles ached, but she didn’t dare let go. Landon, I miss you. She dug in the deep recesses of her mind as she tried to conjure up an image of him again.

And there he was, smiling down at her when she sank into a warm bath with the candles burning softly as the only light. He reached over to wipe away her tears as he balanced on the edge of the tub.

“Today sucks. I don’t know if I’m cut out for this,” she’d cried after a long day of tantrums and meltdowns and not being able to do anything right. She’d leaned her chin against his calloused palm, seeking comfort from his touch.

“You are so much stronger than you think.”

Gerald’s body was heavy and lifeless. Drool from his mouth dripped down and pooled on her shirt while body fluids soaked the mattress below her legs. Still, she held him a minute longer, counting each second with a chant. One Mississippi. Two Mississippi.

You have to let go sometime. Consciously, she knew the threat was gone but the shock of how easy that had happened gave her pause. She took a deep breath and shoved the body to the floor as she ripped the pink and black pistol from the fanny pack.

His shoulder was wedged unnaturally beneath him and his head was twisted to the side. She jumped up and kicked her sneaker into his face to make sure he wasn’t going to move again as she held the gun pointed at him. Every part of her wanted to shoot him anyway. Guns are loud.

She backed up to the door and opened it with her focus still on the body.

“Hey Scott, we need you,” she called out as she risked a peek into the kitchen.

“What for?” The rough voice echoed through the house.

Tessa kicked Gerald’s boot, waiting for him to wake up. “He passed out and I’m bored, but there’s enough here left that we both could have a good time.”

“Gerald passed out?” Scott asked hesitantly. Make him come to you.

“Just collapsed on the bed.” She tightened her grip on the pistol, positioning her body against the door frame so she had a clear view of the kitchen and could still keep eyes on the limp body lying on the carpet. “There are four lines left. Should I do them all?”

“Give me a minute,” Scott barked, panicked as he tried to decide what to do with Robin and the other woman.
