Without a thought, he covered Ronna’s head with his hand.

For a brief moment, she fought, pushing past the weakness of her body and punching into him with all her faltering strength. But it wasn’t enough, not enough to break past Amy’s spell, and certainly not enough to stop Sorin.

He squeezed, crushing her skull and killing her instantly.

Amy’s spine arched, her mouth parting in a ragged gasp.

“Wyn...love...”

Blood trickled from the corner of her mouth. Her eyes opened, then went blank.

And she, too, was gone.

“Good journey, human,” Sorin murmured, mystified to find that he was...sad.

A figure swam into view at the corner of his eye.

He realized in that moment that Gia was no longer with him.

But when he looked at her shade, he knew she was there, bonded to her shadow. She’d stood witness to the death of the woman she’d once called friend.

As the shadow faded from view, Sorin reached over and took the blade, holding it in his hand.

Stupefied, he murmured, “Just how did you come to be here?”
