He slowly pulled back, not bothering to deepen the kiss. Without a word, he led me over to the table I’d been sitting at with Trent and Gemma, leaving me a bit shocked and confused.

What the fuck had just happened?

“What happened to your fucking face?” Trent asked.

Seth shrugged as I took a seat next to him. His hand clamped over my bare thigh, and a chill raced down my spine at the possessive touch.

“Been getting into some shit,” Seth said evasively.

Trent arched an eyebrow at him. “The other guy look worse than you?”

Seth just shrugged again. I frowned up at him. “Seth, what’s going on?” I asked him. Something wasn’t right. Seth wasn’t one for getting in fights; I knew that. Hell, everyone knew that.

He looked down at me. “Nothing,” he grumbled, looking away again.

Something was going on.

“You look horrible,” I whispered, unable to help myself when I placed my hand over his on my thigh.

He looked over at me. “You look better than you did before.”

I scowled at him. He was evading the conversation.

“Quit deflecting,” I snapped at him. His lips twitched in amusement. “Why are you fighting?” I demanded to know.

“Because I got suspended,” he said with a shrug.

Trent’s eyes widened, something in his head clicking that wasn’t clicking in mine. Why the hell would he be fighting just because he got suspended.

“Jesus fucking Christ,” Trent spluttered. Seth just looked at him. “Is Melanie okay?”

The fuck did Melanie have to do with any of this?

Seth looked at my brother. “I guess. Fuck if I know. I haven’t seen Melanie in a few days,” Seth told him.

Trent pulled out his phone and texted her. I looked between them. “Can someone please tell me what the fuck is going on?” I demanded. I was missing something, something big, and I didn’t fucking like it.

“Jeez, girl, you’re blind as fuck,” Gemma told me. I glared at her. “Seth has been getting into it with one of his parents.”

I gaped at Seth, horrified.

He clenched his jaw. “I don’t want your fucking pity, Bailey,” he snapped at me. I flinched, casting my eyes away from him.

I really was fucking sheltered. Everyone had known what was happening to him but me. And I felt like shit because I couldn’t put it together.

The cutting. His rude, toxic behavior. The bruises.

It all made sense.

He cut because he needed control over something.

“Let’s go,” Trent said. Seth opened his mouth to protest, but Trent pointed his finger at him, glaring. “I’ve already texted my dad what’s going on. It’s being taken care of. But you need to come with us back to our house.”

“The fuck?” Seth growled, on the defensive. “Why?”

Trent sighed in exasperation, helping Gemma up from the seat. “Because Dad is already calling the police on whoever the fuck is abusing you,” Trent snapped at him.

Seth jumped up from the bench seat, glaring at my brother. “I didn’t ask for your fucking interference.”
