Dad sighed, opening his mouth to say something, but Trent came into the room before he could, already opening his big mouth.

“What’s so different about now?” Trent asked, washing his hands as he looked at us from over the counter. “She was just sick earlier today,” he reminded her.

I looked pleadingly at Dad. If there was one person I was terrified of finding out, it was Trent. He was overprotective of me, and I valued his opinion of me.

I was nothing if I didn’t have my older brother.

“Your sister is pregnant,” Dad told him.

I focused my eyes on the wooden table in front of me, terrified to look at my brother now. “Holy shit,” Trent finally uttered. I chanced a glance up at him. He was leaning against the counter, looking like he’d just been slapped stupid.

“I’m sorry,” I cried, tears now streaming down my face. “I didn’t mean for any of this to happen.”

Trent rushed into the dining room and pulled me up into his arms. I started crying harder as my brother’s strength wrapped around me. “Bailey, you have to breathe,” Trent soothed, running his hand over my hair. “I’m not abandoning you, little sis. I love you. Now breathe.”

The front door opened. I looked over, more tears rushing out of my eyes when I met Seth’s blue-eyed gaze. My lips trembled, and I sobbed. That rubber band was about to pop. I couldn’t tell him this. I was going to lose him.

“Woah, Bailey, baby,” he breathed, rushing up to me. He pulled me into his arms, holding me tight to him, his hand cradling the back of my head. “Talk to me, baby.”

I wanted to scream. This wasn’t fair. There was only a tiny piece of rubber holding that band together now.

“I’m pregnant,” I cried into his chest.

He staggered back from me. Trent caught me before my knees gave out from beneath me. I sobbed, watching as Seth quickly retreated from me, his entire face going blank. “No,” he growled.

That rubber band snapped into three different pieces.

“I’m sorry,” I sobbed, reaching for him like the pathetic girl I was. “Seth—"

He turned on his heel and stormed out of the house, slamming the front door shut behind him. I sank to the floor, sobs wracking my chest. Trent held me tight to him, whispering soothing, comforting words to me.

But it was too late.

Everything was over now.

The guy I’d fallen in love with was gone.

And now, my entire world was falling the fuck apart.
