I grabbed his hand and yanked up his sleeve, revealing his fresh cut along with a multitude of white scars on his tan flesh. The images of all that blood flashed through my mind. I swallowed thickly and drew in a deep breath, trying to force them back down.

I looked up, meeting Seth’s mesmerizing blue eyes. “You don’t, hm?” I taunted.

He yanked his hand from mine and yanked his sleeve back down. “Fuck off, Bailey,” he snarled. “No wonder no one bothers with you.” I gritted my teeth, pretending his words weren’t actually cutting me. “Barely fucking know me, and you’re already all up in my fucking shit.”

“You’re a fucking dick,” I snapped at him. “Are you trying to fucking kill yourself?” I demanded.

He gritted his teeth, drawing in a deep breath before he swung his stormy, blue eyes back to me. “No,” he gritted.

“Then why the fuck are you doing it?” I demanded. I needed to know.

He shoved his hand through his hair. “It’s a fucking release, okay?” he finally snapped back at me. He stormed back up to me and wrapped his hand around my throat, drawing me close to him. I glared up hard into his eyes even though he was somewhat constricting my airflow. “You breathe a fucking word of this to anyone—”

“I won’t,” he loosened his hold, “if you agree to stop.” His hand tightened again.

I forced my breathing to stay calm, not panicking. Somehow, I knew he wouldn’t seriously hurt me, even if he looked as if he was contemplating it. It was kind of frightening, honestly, but I stood my ground.

“I want something in return,” he finally proposed.

The fuck could he want in return?

“Like?” I asked, my words a bit strangled. Wasn’t he getting enough from my silence?

His eyes clashed with mine again. “You.”

He loosened his grip and stepped back from me. I reached up to rub my throat, staring at him incredulously. “Well?’ he impatiently asked when I continued to remain silent.

He wanted me. Just what fucking game was Seth playing at? But if it was the cost to get him to stop hurting himself, then it was a cost I would pay.

“You promise you’ll stop?” I asked him.

He shrugged. “I’m a man of my word, so long as you uphold your end of the bargain as well.”

I jerkily nodded my head. Something in my gut told me that Seth and I together wouldn’t be good; it would be catastrophic—toxic.

But I couldn’t stand to see someone doing to themselves what Trent had done. I couldn’t go through that again, not when I knew about it and knew I could help him.

“Words, Bailey. I know you can speak. That mouth of yours is constantly spewing bullshit at me.”

I glowered at him. He just smirked. “Yes,” I gritted, feeling like I’d just sold my soul to the devil.

He grabbed my chin, forcing me to look up at him. His eyes stayed connected with mine as he leaned in and brushed my lips with his. They barely touched mine, but it was enough to make my pulse skyrocket.

“See you tomorrow, Bailey.”

With that, he turned and walked up the slope away from me.

What the fuck had I just agreed to?
