Steven blew out a soft breath. “If she comes on to me, I won’t push her away. That good enough for you? I’ve never been one to settle down, Seth,” he reminded me. “I like the thrill of danger way too fucking much. No woman is suited for that kind of shit.”

“I think she is,” I mused. Bailey used to have so much life and fire inside of her soul. “Just got to bring her back to herself first.”

Steven sighed. “So, what does this mean, Seth?”

I smiled down at the water, hope blooming in my chest. Maybe something would finally change. Maybe Steven could help me bring Bailey back. “This means you’re about to become an active part of Bailey’s recovery,” I told him.

He sighed. “Hope you know what the fuck you’re doing, bro.”

I shrugged. “Not entirely sure, to be honest. I’m literally sliding by on the seat of my ass each day.” Steven barked out a laugh. I rolled my eyes. “But if the two of us can breathe some life back into Bailey, then fuck it. You just can’t ever turn your back on her if you decide to do this, Steven. Once you’re in, you’re in. That’s it.”

I’d made that mistake once. I’d never turn my back on her again.

Steven sighed. “I know, bro. Trust me—what I feel for Bailey is strong enough to make me think it could be a life long thing.” When my brother said things, he meant them. “So, I’m in. You’re not losing her, Seth. We’ll save her, you hear me?”

I cleared my throat, suddenly overwhelmed with gratitude. “Thanks, brother.”

“Anytime. Now go cuddle your woman.”

I hung up the phone and stared down at the water as I shoved my phone back into my pocket. I just started something I didn’t know the rules of. I had no idea how any of this would work, but I knew I would figure it out.

Bailey’s life was depending on it at this point.
